Is this a good price, as I expected it to be higher new? And does it come with the Disc's as well.

Thanks!

Personally I would not buy parts from GMPartsDirect. They may seem like a cheaper price, but they NAIL you for shipping (think like 120 dollars) and also come with NO return or warentee policy. So if you get the nav unit and its DOA, good luck getting it replaced. They also are slow to ship. Personally, I am not going to buy from them again. Try ebay. I got my NEW (well it was a dealer take-out with ~11 miles on it) Lux nav unit WITH disc and GPS antenna for 1099 dollars. That price GMpartsdirect gives you does NOT include disc or anything. If you really want to buy new, try buying from Specmo or another Delphi/Delco dealer. Model Electronics is another company that comes to mind.

Thank you!

I'll keep looking.

Actually the shipping was $320...

So, I bought a different one. Now, I have the head unit and the antenna coming, where does the antenna mount?
And to avoid problems with the dealer changing the vin, is there something I need to say to avoid the dreaded "We can't do that"?

Thanks!

IIRC, the antenna mounts behind the radio, either in the dash or to the radio itself. Its pretty much self-contained.

Did you get a Map Disc set too?

TA Dave

Yes, this was a dealer take out, with a disc. It's from an 05 Hummer, but I don't know what disc is with it.

The nav antenna goes under the top dash panel.

You have to pull the top dash panel to bolt the antenna in.

Check DuratotheMax's instruction's in the "do it yourself" section

I'm pretty sure he explain's it there, and also how to unlock the nav unit at the dealeer's

Good luck

Well it's here, the NAV is an 05 but the Disc is an 04 3.0. :o:

I got the smaller plug out of the stock deck, but the larger one is a bear, any hints? And that antenna sure is short enough...

Once I get the old one out, I have to go see the Dealer for a VIN release. I'm like a kid on Christmas eve... ):h

You kinda really have to press the release tab hard to get the 24 pin connector to release. I used to do it with a small screwdriver (prying the retaining clip off the little hook) but now ive done it so many times that I can move it in a certain way and press just hard enough that it pops right out. Use the TECH 2 VIN RELEARN instructions on the navigation install website. Make sure the dealer follows those instructions exactly and everything will be fine. If he says "it wont work", just say "I dont care if it fry's my BCM and burns my truck to the ground, just follow the procedure" (Obviously, neiehter of those things wont happen, but the dealer just wants to cover his a$$ because its not a procedure described in their special books, so they think it will hurt something)

):h Thanks Ben, you've been a big help.

I have two shots at the dealers, 1. The Chevy Dealer I bought the truck from knows I have not filled out the survey the factory sends out to see how they did. ;)
And 2. A friend is the body shop Mgr at the GMC dealer and he said he thought a couple of the Tech's should be able to do it.

I really need an Antenna lead extender. ;)

If yor are talking about the am-fm antenna, just pull on it, there is plenty of cable there.

Maybe it's different with the 06's, as this lead is just long enough for me to squeeze my hand it to unplug it. :(

After it was out I even tried again, it won't even make it to the dash opening.

Double check that it's not wrapped around something back there.

It goes down and to the right and won't budge. It keeps the radio from coming all the way out, but I worked around it. It would have been nice to hook everything up without having part of the radio still inside the dash. ;)

There is a lot more room to work in there if you first remove the climate control.

That is a post-op x-ray of my left elbow.

Sometimes sometimes when you do stupid stuff you have to pay for it.

It was 3 years ago today.

Well the head unit and antenna are in, tomorrow I go to the dealer for the vin change. Using the fuse trick it sounds and works great!

do you need an antenna if you have onstar?

killerbee

yes

I had to buy one, and I have XM and Onstar.

does anyone know where I can find these Nav units cheaper?

TA Dave
09-20-2005, 10:20 AM
I got mine off of E-bay, for a touchscreen the average price would be around $1K to $1300. It's still cheaper than an Aftermarket, and everything works and is stock.

DURAtotheMAX

If you dont care too much about the touchscreen and want to save A LOT of money, you can buy an old 2003-2004 NON-touchscreen Escalade nav radio. It uses a little joystick/mouse thing to select things on the screen. You can probably get one for 400-500 dollars on ebay.

I'll keep an eye for one from ebay thanks guys.

DURAtotheMAX

one heads up tho....abot 99% of the NON-touchscreen nav radios you see will be LUX only. So if you go non-touchscreen to save some $, you will most likely have to go with the LUX amp as well.

And then you get to pay the dealer $80 to re-learn the VIN...

So to upgrade to the touchscreen lux nav. set up you need (the unit) a lux amp. Another antenna(seperate from the XM one/if you have OEM XM) and a disk? If you go with all the bells and whistles Whats th other ant. for?Is anyone thinking about the A2,or just me?

DURAtotheMAX
09-21-2005, 01:02 AM
mehhh the A2 is kinda a waste of money IMHO. The factory nav unit is much more integrated, works nicely with XM, and you can also hook up a backup camera and DVD player/game system to it (with an adapter). The nav unit doesnt use the XM antenna because XM is on a different band than GPS satellites. It operates at a different frequency, so it would not work.

Mr. Mister

the nav unit should work off of the onstar antenna....it's a gps antenna...the denali's don't have to gps antennas...I confused:confused:

mwgasman
09-26-2005, 02:44 PM
they do not use the onstar antenna.
there is a separte gps antenna in the center of the dash behind the radio.
this is true for all gmt-800s.
