: Did some snooping....
patracy 09-09-2005, 09:10 PM And now I'm confused. Isn't the 02 and up suposed to have a cat? Mine doesn't (02 CC 4x4) It has what looks to be a factory muffler with a flow and arrow stamped on the side. It's not a "straight through" because the exit is offset from the inlet. I mesured the diameter and it's 3.5"
Is that right? I'm going back to the dealer tommorrow to find out how this will affect my warrentee. (they said I couldn't touch it since it had a cat)
McRat 09-09-2005, 09:16 PM The cat is in the front, near the trans.
It depends on what state you are in as to when cats became manditory. Most states did not need them until 2004.5.
Max Power 09-09-2005, 09:19 PM Na, the 02 came with a Duramax, not a Cat(erpillar ;)
Seriosuly, most states didn't get a Cat until 04.5 when the LLY was introduced. Very few 04 and older trucks have cats and EGR's. Only California emmissions and a few others.
patracy 09-09-2005, 09:19 PM Nope straight pipe all the way from the downpipe to the muffler.
patracy 09-09-2005, 09:20 PM Thanks everyone! Now I've got something to argue with the dealership about!!!!!
Max Power 09-09-2005, 09:23 PM You don't have a cat and you aren't supposed to have one. What are you arguing about?
patracy 09-09-2005, 09:36 PM Dealership said I couldn't do anything to the truck because it had a cat. (or so they thought) And it would be against EPA and hence void the warr.
I'm gonna head back tommorrow and ask them how that'd be possible now.
Max Power 09-09-2005, 09:40 PM I see. You should still find a new dealer... You are asking for trouble.
patracy 09-09-2005, 09:43 PM Kinda stuck with them. :( Extended warr.
patracy 09-09-2005, 09:44 PM Guess I'll have to play it dumb when I go. I'll ask them where it is.
Max Power 09-09-2005, 10:16 PM I would hope that the extented warranty isn't limited to that dealer?
patracy 09-09-2005, 11:32 PM I bought the truck at a dodge dealership, it's through dodge with a $100 deductable. Basically if they can fix it, they send it to a chevy dealer. Not the best deal in the world, but it's better than nothing.
TheBac 09-09-2005, 11:39 PM So you blew the chance at GardnerTeam's exhaust deal before asking us? Ouch.
02's didnt come with a cat, like Max said. Aftermarket exhaust won't affect the warranty. Now, if you show up at the dealer with a tuner plugged in, thats a different story.

WOJO 1 09-10-2005, 10:44 PM My 02 has a CAT. If you bought your truck used the original owner could have removed it. If it was built with a CAT and now it is gone, the dealer can give you trouble with it.
Max Power 09-10-2005, 10:46 PM As was said many times before certain 02 trucks with certain emissions packages (California) came with Cats. The majority of them did not.
idahofox 09-11-2005, 08:44 PM Do a VIN check, see where it was First sold.
