I would like to lift the truck up about 2inches or so. Would cranking the bolts 5 times give me about that? Now this is a pretty dumb question but do you turn them clockwise or counterclockwise to lift it up? (I've never really looked at them).
Thanks a ton for any replies.

If you want to crank the torsion bars to get lift in the front end, you will need more than 5 turns to get 2". You can expect 1.5-2" if you bottom the bolts out completily. While lieing on your back turn clockwise with a 18 or 19mm socket (I cant rember what size exactily)

18mm, make sure you count your turns, as to set both bars at the same tension.

Thanks for your replies guys. It is 18mm. I just got down doing it. Looks good! Now I did 5 turns and I was wondering that if I put the bolt up all the way (to the stop) would that be recommandable or not? Would that give me a lot less suspension? I just took it for a drive and it drives nice. I actually think it rides better. Firmer. But still more comfortable. I like it.
I will be putting on 265s on the stock rims (75% ratio sidewalls). I was going to go 285 (ive had 265's on my 04 lly) but i got scared because of fuel economy, rubbing, rim size and body roll with them. That should lift the truck another half inch or so I guess (that's calculating out of my head).
Will post pics soon.

im not sure if you can get 2inches of them but you have to tighten the bolts evenly clockwise

I had a much improved ride at 6 turns but it took 9 to get it 1/2" below level w/the rear and the ride was starting to decline so I kept it there. After you turn it up you have to drive it a little to settle the front end in before taking your measurements. Also remember to realign your front end and get new front shocks or shock extenders since the factory shocks were already to short from the factory and you'll definatly destroy them quick now. Put up pics when you get done!

yup, just like tightening a bolt.
you should jack up the front end to relieve tension on the bolts and torsion bars some tho. you definitly dont want to spin off the head or strip the bolt as there is ALOT of pressure on it.
and by the way, welcome to the place.
you can find out almost anything about your truck using the search a little. there are threads on stuff you wouldnt even have thought of.
and it helps keep tempers down if you only post the same question in one section.

could any one of you guys attach a picture of the torsion bars you are talking about. I would also like to raise my 04 2500HD Duramax to level. Sorry, but I'm new to this as well.thanks.
