Hi from germany,

D'max and Allison is very new for me.

I have two questions:

- I've heard many about re-setting the Allison tranny. Why and when
you have to do that ?

- Is it right, that the Allison learns about a time, how you drive ?
If you drive slow, it changes the gears earlier (in lower rpm) and
if you drive often faster, it changes later (in higher rpm) ?
( Like the tiptronic-tranny of Audi )

Thanks for your answers.

Greets from germany (where the diesel ist very expensive too at this time)

Oliver :)

Germany is a beautiful country, got to spend a couple of weeks there a few years ago.

Resetting the learn values is only necassary if you've changed something internally, such as an overhaul, or if for whatever reason a shift is learned wrong (luckily this rarely happens).

The shift points of an Allison follow a table that looks at throttle and output speed. These points do not change but they are set up to shift sooner at low throttle and later at higher throttle. The actual learning has to do with the shift. The transmission computer will adjust the pressure and amount of oil going to each clutch to make the best shift possible. How you drive will also have an affect on how it learns.
