: Hard Decision...
PLM-1 09-07-2005, 09:57 PM OK, It's between an 04 LB7 Ext SB SLT. 32k miles...
A 2006 LLY IDENTICAL except for the year and 6speed Ally...$6000 more and 0 miles.
Would you say in 3-4 years resale is going to be nearly the same?
What would you do!? And why would you buy one over the other.
briano 09-07-2005, 10:10 PM what are your plans/goals?? if you plan on increasing power and tweaking it then get the LB7 because you will have no issues doing so.
the 06 LLY has no power adders available right now and also has emissions(egr, cat converter) unlike the LB7(if so equipped).
you could get the LB7, spend $1500 and get exhaust, chip, guages..etc.. save $4500
just my $.02
good luck on your choice
swatkins 09-07-2005, 10:21 PM If the injectors ever leak on the LB7 ( mine did twice) you would have wished you had the 06...
Another plus is you KNOW what has been done and how abused the 06 is.. Can you say the same for the 04?
And you just gota love that new truck smell :)
PLM-1 09-07-2005, 10:25 PM I guess i should have added...this truck was a dealer truck used to pull their car hauler. ...if that matters
swatkins 09-07-2005, 10:50 PM I would think it would be even worse then... People driving the truck that really don't care about it.... I know the poeple that drive our ambulances don't really give a darn about taking care of them...
And another thought... with the 06 you get a full warranty!
gretzky2kurri 09-07-2005, 10:52 PM I guess i should have added...this truck was a dealer truck used to pull their car hauler. ...if that mattersWhich could mean they drove it like they stole it.
I worked at a car dealership when I was younger.
RickDLance 09-07-2005, 10:54 PM I would be happy, and I would do it, if I could trade my 04 for an 06 for only $6000 difference. I say go for it!!
PLM-1 09-07-2005, 10:54 PM Which could mean they drove it like they stole it.
I worked at a car dealership when I was younger.
It was only the business manager that drove it. He drove it everyday plus hauled dealer cars.
bricklef 09-07-2005, 10:55 PM I'd go the '06. $0.19 / mile is fairly cheap. You know that it hasn't been abused. WOuld you have to buy tires soon for the '04? Do you know if it's been chipped and ran hard?

Tires are brand new OEM replacement on/off roads...as i said above...dealer truck, so i doubt that it was chipped
bricklef 09-07-2005, 11:04 PM you got that in just before I posted sorry on the abuse statement.
swatkins 09-07-2005, 11:05 PM I still think the problem with the injectors leaking would be the deal breaker.... It happened to me when I was on vacation... 900 miles from home and two dealers could not help me :( Ended up leaving it in Lubbock and then having to drive 1100 miles to go get it after it was repaired...
The injectors might leak on this LLY truck but if they do it most likely will not be into the crank case!

bricklef 09-07-2005, 11:06 PM On the flipside, $6000 would buy a nice bed toy (such as an ATV or something fun like that) Just to keep you confused ):h
PLM-1 09-07-2005, 11:07 PM you got that in just before I posted sorry on the abuse statement.
It's all good!

I was thinking the same thing. Either a nice new 24' enclosed trailer or a plow and another mower...hmmmm grrrr decisions decisions
darrentpi 09-07-2005, 11:39 PM I went through the same thing, and actually put a deposit on a used one. I was lucky the financing never went through, because during that process I went to the dealer the next morning, before I was declined, and the dealer was not open, because I was too early. I decided to wait for them to open, and went and crawled under this used 03 Duramax and had a better look at the under components and saw very loose drive train and well scratched undercarrige. At this point I was regretting, and had a bad feeling in my stomache as I wanted out of the deal. I went for a early morning coffee to think about things, and my thoughts were to pay the extra 8000.00 and buy a new one, and pull out on this deal with the used one.
Luckly the financing never went through, and I got my deposit back and ran!!
I ended up going to a different dealer and was aproved on a brand new DMax, I will never look back!

Duromax04 09-07-2005, 11:47 PM For my money, I would go with the 06. 2 model years and zero miles, for 6 grand I think is a pretty good deal. I just went through this same thing on an 05. I could have gotten an 04 LB7 for about 25,500, or a new 05 for 29,300. To me, it was a no brainer. I went with the 05 and a fresh warranty. The 04 needed to be another 2 to 3 grand cheaper to make it a good deal.
Some will argue, and that is okay. We all have different views on this sort of thing. That is what makes this sight fun.
I have had an LB7 and without a programmer, it was very normal. It was not particularly fun to drive. With the Edge on #2 and Low Boost fuel on #5, it was a barn burner and a lot of fun to drive. The LLY is much more responsive than the LB7 was I think. I have not programmed the LLY, and probably won't for a while.
Which ever you choose, you have to be happy with it, in your own mind.
Good Luck.
PLM-1 09-08-2005, 12:20 AM What to do what to do!???? :help: :confuzeld
Twistedsteel 09-08-2005, 01:35 AM Ha, you remind me alot of myself.):h I can't make a decision to save my life. I am always worried I'm going to make the wrong decision and just kick myself in the ass wishin I chose the other. I say go with the 06. I got the 05 a couple weeks before the end of empl. pricing. Then they extended it and know you can get the 06 with emp. pricing:mad: .I was pretty pissed at first but all is good now.I'm gonna see if I like the the body change and maybe trade up. Anyway back to you, I dought you'll be upset with either, but I don't like the LB7 injector issues. So go get that 06!:ro)

Ya, I'm so freakin back and forth. The employee pricing isn't AS good as it would be on an 05'. $hit kids...need to make up my mind...ya'll have given me a lot to think about. I think i'm leaning more toward the LB7 and some TOYS! ;) along with an extended warranty. I'm thinking of it as a gut feeling. Like, when you take a test, never second guess yourself; the first answer was probably correct!
michbritt 09-08-2005, 04:15 AM This is a no brainer for me. The '06 hands down.
dan_diesel 09-09-2005, 02:25 PM :exactly: Even if the '06 ran as hot as my '05 (it wouldn't), I'd do it just for that 6 speed, manual shift option ALLISON!!!
Not even a question in my mind which I'd choose if I were in your shoes...:D
bigchief1985 09-09-2005, 02:37 PM I would go with the 06 for the warranty.Run a Vin check on the 04 before you make a decision.I wouldn't worry to much about the injectors as anything under 100K will still be in warranty.Good luck!!
