Its my understanding that the new LBZ has the same garrett turbo that the 6.0L powerstrokes have on them, so should we expect the same whistle off the duramax as the 6.0. Honestly i think the 6.0 is one of the best sounding diesels i have ever heard, especially the 03s and 04s before the turbo change, and as a chevy guy it takes a lot for me to say that.:ro)

I hope not. They had a LOT of turbo failures with the 6.0's, and it's turbo is smaller than the one on the Dmax.

The turbo whistle on the 06 is much louder than the early LLY, but remember that there are intake changes, as well as a quieter running engine, so this may play into it. I doubt that it will ever have the hairdryer sound of an 03 6.0 though...

Quieter motor on the insdie, wonder what it will sound like with 4 inch exhaust.................

McRat is right on the high turbo failure rate.

I talked with a tow truck driver in Moab, UT in the spring of '04, and he had towed 19 '03 Strokers since they had been out due to various assorted turbo failures.:eek:

I thought even the "old" LLY's had a similar VVT turbo to the 6.0 liter 'Strokers, no?? And I do have to agree, the Powerstroke is a great sounding engine.

I live st the top of a 14 mile grade over 7 percent and since the 6.0 PS came out 7 to my knowledge have stopped dead in my driveway with burned turbo's. I hope this won't be the case with the the LBZ.

I took my Mother to the airport yesterday in my 06, with the radio off she thought I had a "Radio whine"... :D I had to tell her "No, it's the turbo working".

6.0's only sound good at WOT w/straight pipes, the rest sound like school buses

i want the open exhaust on my 06 when i get it. i just hope gm didnt put sensors or crap on those pipes. would i pop any codes with straight pipes?:)

I think many of us ordered it the day it became available. I'm not aware of anyone taking delivery of one yet.

man its only been a week and its killing me that i dont have mine yet!!!!
