IMO, the GM Bose system is the best stock system in a truck or SUV by far (especially the Escalade's and Denali's with their LUXURY Bose systems). The Infinity systems in the Dodge trucks dont use a sub and the amp is pathetic (like in size it is much smaller than the Bose amps). I guess I cant really speak directly for the Dodge truck Infinity systems, but if its ANYTHING like the Infinity systems in the Jeep Grand Cherokee's and Chrysler Pacifica's, its nothing great at all. Even the stock Bose "Premium" system that comes in the LT trucks/SUV's would blow it away.

Oh yeah...Ford doesnt even use a "premium" brand in the trucks. 4 crappy 6x9" speakers in each door is all you get. My firned's 2004 Super Duty is aweful...I mean I understand its "just a truck" its not supposed to have a good sound system, but I mean when we spend the extra money for the (chevy) LT, (ford) Lariat, or dodge (Laramie) its kinda a nice thing to offer. This is one area where I think GM did a nice job. They really put some nice useful features and creature comforts and made them all STANDARD when you buy the LT. Like on the Ford Lariat and Dodge Laramie, you still have to option in things like power seats and whatnot. GM just drops it all in when you check the LT/1SC option box... And even on the nicest Ford's and Dodges, I dont think you can get auto climate control, seats that do EVERYTHING power, or satellite radio. And OnStar is nice too...i know i know its expensive and ill probably never need it, but it is nice to have for that one chance you might need it. And OnStar has worked in DOZENS of situations where I cant even get service on my cell phone....

sorry I know Dodge and Ford guys are gonna flame me...."you dont need that girly stuff on a truck..." But right now when Im 6 hours away from home at college, I would not want to make the long drive in any other truck!

Wait you're getting a DODGE??? AHHH!!! Nothing electronic will ever work in a Dodge, or any other vehicle for that matter. For one thing, there is the Theftlock feature. But the main reason is the lack of Class II data-bus in the other trucks...our GM radios and electronic components NEED that data-bus to operate.

Do you have the Bose system in your truck, Scotty C?? If you do, you have two routes to go when adding a sub. You can either use a good LOC (line output converter) and grab the 4 stock sub outputs from the Bose amp (in the center console) and tie those 4 sub outputs into the LOC. The Bose sub has 4 wires instead of two because it is a Dual Voice-Coil subwoofer.
Option B is to get a module called a PAC AOEM-GM24. It plugs into the back of the radio and gives you standard red/white RCA outputs that you can plug into any aftermarket amplifier/subwoofer.

The sad thing is that for less money you can go to WalMart and buy a Jensen system that blows away any of the Pose systems.

When an amp is smaller than another one it has less power? Right.....the physical size of an amp has nothing to do with it's output. Acually, I've seen many high end amps that are smaller that the cheap ones.....

Actually Ford uses 5X7s

What you're calling standard and a great deal is just not so. IMO For does a great job offering the most options. GM groups options together to keep costs down and force the consumer to spend more money.
Take the SLT/LT package for example. In 03 when I ordered Babe the full feature seats and some other stuff were not included with the SLT package, now they are. If I had it my way I would have gotten the full feature seats with cloth, and I wouldn't have gotten ConStar or Pose. I wanted the seats, so I had to buy a bunch of crap I didn't want and removed anyway. GM isn't doing us any favors by force bundling options; they're making money...

Every car, truck, minivan, van, SUV and even motorcycle mass-produced these days has electronics...Most vehicles also have an electronic anti-theft system, many of them far better and more complex than the one in your truck.
Actually you could take the radio out of your truck and install in into a power wheels jeep if you wanted to…All you need is power. The radio uses data to communicate with the amp and all the other stuff, but it doesn't NEED it to work...

It needs constant VIN cinfirmation (via Class II data) from the BCM if its a 2003 or newer radio. I tried powering up several radios on the bench and they locked right up. The old 1.5 DIN radios in the 2002 and older trucks work fine out of the truck...

Yes, BlueOx, I understand what you are saying, and agree somewhat how its silly to group things together...but really the ONLY options that are locked to the LT/SLT package are the 10 way seats, heated seats, and memory seats. Everything else you can "add on" to an LS. A friend of mine has an LS with cloth, but it has Bose, OnStar, XM, center console, auto climate control, and everything else (except heated/memory seats). But I think for marketing and price grouping, GM HAS to at least have SOMETHING that is exclusive to the LT to set them apart. It would kinda be like if it was possible get a Tahoe with EVERY single option that was offered in the Escalade's. On your SLT, you didnt get the full feature seats??? I was under the impression that full feature seats have been in EVERY LT/SLT since 2001. Maybe the GMC's are different, but I know the full feature seats have been part of every Chevy LT since 2001, but hey I have been wrong before, I dont mean to argue...

Not true at all , the Blows system does have its weakness (lack of bass , fixed by a good sub) but the IMAGING AND DETAIL IS FAR SUPERIOR to the Jensen garbage, thats not saying that you cant build a better system with aftermarket equipment, if cost is not factored in JUST MY .02 WORTH

EXACTLY CAP!!! I mean of course the Bose system isnt going to have a lot of bass...its only got a 6" sub!! But honestly, with the LUX amp driving it, that little 6" sub does a DARN good job. With certain kinds of music, it really belts out some surprising bass. And I do love the stereo imaging of the Bose system, especially coupled with the increased (or impression of...) clarity of the LUX system. I really love listening to the Beatles (who seem to make HUGE use of stereo sound) because its like there is a defined wall down the center of the cabin. I mean you can REALLY hear whats coming from the left and whats coming from the right. I do give the Bose system credit for that because it does it very well. Its not "flat" sound by any means.

Hey Ben, if I wanted to upgrade to the bose Sub ( have the Bose system in my truck) should I go through the dealer or other route????...Thanks........Scott

Wait im not sure I understand....all Bose speaker systems (Lux and Non-lux) are identical. They all have a speaker in each door, a tweeter in each A-pillar, and a dual voice-coil subwoofer in the center console. If your door speakers say "BOSE" on them and you have "UQ7" listed in your glovebox RPO sticker, you have a subwoofer. The only difference between the LUX (Escalade and Denali) systems and non-lux (Silverado, Sierra, tahoe, 'Burban, etc) systems is the AMPLIFIER. The speakers themselves are identical. Thats what makes it so easy to do the upgrade. Drop in a new amp, reprogram your current head unit (or install an Escalade nav/radio unit like I did) and do a tiny bit of wire/pin swapping at the amp connectors. Bingo! You now have MUCH MUCH MUCH better sound using the exact same speakers...just different amp. Now you'll be at Escalade/Denali stereo status! The dealer will look at you cross-eyed if you ask them to do this. You'll have to do it yourself... PM me if you have any specific questions about it...

Do you have an email address I can send the pictures to? If you have the Bose system, you definetly have the "UQ7" speaker package, but check just in case. I love my Escalade nav radio. Voice prompts and very accurate directions. It even turns down the music when it talks to you! The Lux amps can be tricky to find on ebay, although if you have exhausted all search options such as the junk yard, etc.. then you can always buy a NEW one from JP Customs (www.jpcustoms.com) for around 300 dollars IIRC. Then figure ~900-1000 for the nav unit on ebay. Its an easy weekend project...

Ah yes...I wrote up an entire thread in the DIY section on how to install the LUX amp/navigation radio. Its long, ill admit, but it is good reading and I also explain how the Lux amp works and how it differs from the non-lux amp, if you are interested. If not, you can always skip that part and go straight to the install instructions!

when on ebay just search for Escalade Nav radio????

DURAtotheMAX
09-19-2005, 01:32 AM
Search for "GM navigation"
Make sure the nav radio you are looking to buy has a part number ending in '0099 OR '7531. These are the only two models that work with the LUX amp. ALl the other nav's are meant to work with the NON-lux amp.
