any problems with running the engine with intake manifold removed??
I've got an oil leak, top of engine, passenger side, way in back.
There's something looks like a small freeze plug (1/2 inch) located just below each intake on the heads, and it keeps filling up with oil - does anyone know what that hole is - coolant or oil.. If oil, it may just be leaking - if coolant, oil is just pooling there
I want to remove the intake, clean top of engine and run it to locate oil leak...
any problems with that??
Thanks

Those little freeze plugs in the heads are water ports between the valves. I'd say if you've got an oil leak that it's pooling there from somewhere else.
Where on the engine are you seeing the oil at (which side, front back, etc.)?
Perhaps it's a fuel leak.
You could remove the intake to look for the leak, but keep everything, and I mean everything away from the intake ports while it's running, or else you'll be sorry.
If you can clean dirt and debris out of the way, that would be for the better too. I'd recommend pressure washing the engine thourally before removing the intake, this lets less stuff in the engine when you remove the intake.

I did this just this past Saturday and yes you can. The advice you have been given is good advice- clean the area THOROUGHLY before firing it up. I stuffed paper towels into the ports and scraped the mating surface with a razor. Then I took the air hose to the area several times. No issues when I did it.
Good luck.

A shop vac works well for cleaning the loose debris.
I've run mine without an intake, keep it clean!

Thanks for the input, Wednesday I'll taker down to the carwash and give it a good cleaning.
I've been leaking about 1/2 qt oil for every tank of fuel.
I had the intake off when replacing the IP and studied the area of the#8 intake, as that area was soaked in oil, and oil trailed down the bell housing. I cleaned it up, replaced the intake... had to remove the intake, and that corner near #8 was wet with oil again. I'm thinking at a minimum, bad head gasket, worst case - cracked head
Thanks Again
