I am considering switching my Edge box with the Quad 165 program.I first wanted the 135,then I got on the Quadzilla website, and saw they have a 165. Is anyone running this,or know anything about it?I do not want to stack it with my Edge,so it will be running solo,if I get it.

pretty sure you will need a tranny if you run that 165 tune too much

I won't be running it all the time.Actually probably very rarely. The way I read it,it comes with 70,110,135,and 165,but maybe I am wrong. Since I tow quite a bit,I will probably normally run 70 or 110.But when I am empty it would be nice once in a while to play some with the higher HP programs.Thanks.

BECAREFUL OR YOU WILL BE NEEDING THE UPGRADE-----I THOUGHT THE SAME THING AS YOU DID AND MY TRANNY WAS SHOWING MORE SLIP ALL THE TIME. MY TRANNY WASNT PUT TOGETHER PROPERLY FROM THE FACTORY THOUGH. THE C3'S WERENT BEING LUBED AND COOLED PROPERLY.

I have the 215 coming in the mail. I was expecting it already, so perhaps it will show up tommorow. As soon as it gets here, I will try out the 165 tune. I give it a few days to let the Allison learn, before getting into it, but I might be able to post impressions by the weekend.

DMAXPWR,

Are you not happy with the Hot OJ? The Stealth 135 provides about the same power, and the 165HP a modest bump. If you're looking for noticeably more power first upgrade your tranny, then look at one of the big HP tuners (Stealth 215, Comp OJ, TTS Extreme, etc). In fact, upgrade your tranny now because you're HotOJ probably isn't putting all it has to the rear-wheels now.

FYI, I upgraded to the Stealth 165 after running the Stealth 135 for a while. I found it to be a very good all-around tuner; it smokes very little in lower HP tunes (but a fair bit in 165HP), and runs strong in the 135 and 165 settings. Engine noise is noticeably higher in the 165HP tune, I think due to timing advance.

On my truck with a 4" exhaust and AFE intake and upgraded tranny the Stealth 165HP tune was 0.2 sec faster 0-60 than the 135HP Stealth as measured with a GTech. By comparison my TTS 120HP tune runs 0-60mph 0.3 sec faster the Stealth 165.

Good luck

Doug,

It sounds like you might need more transmission. If you only have stage1 you more than likely are not putting it all to the ground. The 135hp tuner is on the edge of the 400rwhp Suncoast says the transmission will take. You may not be blowing through the clutches, but I would almost bet you aren't getting everything to the ground.

Quad,

Are you saying the reason my Stealth 165 Gtech times are slower than the TTS 120HP is because my tranny is slipping? I see your point - if you add the rated 165HP to a stock 250HP Duramax you get 415rwhp, which is 15HP higher than Suncoast rates thier Stage 1 kit.

I had this concern myself, so after installing the Suncoast kit I used a borrowed Tech-2 to test for tranny slippage with the Stealth 165. When you monitor for T/C slippage in T/H mode, any value other than zero in gears 2-5 means you're causing clutch slippage. I could not get the tranny to slip at all when running the Stealth 165. Further, when I spoke with Joe at Suncoast he said the State 1 was rated at 400rwhp but would be fine up to 450rwhp, so there is some margin in thier ratings.

I know the 0-60 time seem a little puzzling. But they are what they are and I ran them at least a dozen times each and if anything they were consistent. I even changed the fuel filter and cleaned the AFE Stage 2 thinking I was starving it for air and/or fuel. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I'm not trying to be critical of the Stealth. It is a very good programmer and has some features my TTS does not. All I'm saying is that on my truck it's not as fast as my TTS 120HP tuner.

I've seen the 165Quad net more than 165hp.

Have you tried with the T/H off?

I have seen the 165Quad fail to reach 120hp.

One more thing, Dougs trans does not slip even with the extra horsepower of the TTS program over the 165Quad, and, neither does his Suncoast converter .

Definitely!

I see a lot of power hungry Dmax owners going for race type boxes, ruining their Allisons, and then spending big bucks fixing them. Also keep in mind that the transition from level to level with a tuner requires a complete program swap.

JRmac,

Yes I've run with and without T/H. The 0-60 performance advantage of the TTS tracks the same in either setting.

Frankly, what got me interested in the TTS in the first place was losing a race in December to a Chevy CC dually equipped with the TTS 120. With my Stealth 165 and new tranny I felt like I was absolutely hauling a$$, but the heavier dually outran my truck.

I've also heard some Stealth tuners put down more than the rated HP, but then again Nick's dyno of the Stealth 215 only yielded 158.2 rwhp just a few weeks ago. If the 165 setting performed like Nick's Stealth 215 (74% of rated power), then it would be putting down closer to 122rwhp. On the other hand, same dyno same truck same day, Nick's TTS 120 put down 128rwhp.

Doug these were different days but a whille back i hit 455 hp with the quad 215 and a ppe/tts 120 program ran about 375.these numbers were on different trucks though....jess

DMAXPWR,

Getting back on topic.

If you're looking for a little more punch than the HotOJ gives you already, why not just upgrade it to the Edge/Attitude? I don't know Edge's upgrade pricing, but it may be cheaper that buying a Stealth 165. Plus you'd benefit from Edge's tranny slippage protection, you'd get to select your power levels on the fly, and you'd probably get as much horsepower as the Stealth 165. Whatever HP you're not getting to the ground due to slip control would immediately be available when you upgraded your tranny later.

My Quad 215 showed up yesturday. I ran around all day on the 165hp setting. I can't compare it to the Edge, but compared to the Quad 135, the power seems to come on at lower boost and lower RPM. I don't know about total power vs the 135, becasue, I am still wating for the Allison to adapt. Very smooth on the highway with what feels like no highs or lows in the torque curve. The EGTs were the same as the 135 holding 80 on the highway at around 650 degrees. I'll measure the milage at the next few fill-ups to see if there is any change.

I planned to have a Suncoast Stage V by now, but my tax return has been delayed, and Joe is having problems getting the 2004 valve body. Hope I can keep out of the throttle until I get a new tranny.

I don't have much (any) experience in running tuners, but I now have the Quad 165....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif I threw in the towel, I couldn't resist any longer. Now I know what comes next....tranny....more powerful tunes....additional tuners to stack....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif. Its over. Stick a fork in me, I'm done. I'm at the edge of the cliff of mod H*ll and I'm steppin off. I'm so ashamed.

But, I just got the quad to adjust for the H2's....so I'll be ok..right??

We will have a therapy chat room soon......you can be the first one of us to admit you have a problem........I know I have a problem, but I am admitting to nothing........I need everyone of my 5 tuners/boxes.

New update.

I've now had the 165hp tune for a little over a week. I went through a full tank, and the milage is up another 0.6 MPG from the 135 tune. The Allison is still learning the shifts at a few throttle positions, but it is almost perfect. It shifts very quick, and still no zings or limps. I have floored it (0-70) at least once a day. I havn't stayed in it past 70mph, as I'm not sure 5th gear will hold.

VFRRider,

I know you would not be able to hold out. One bit of advise. Don't skip the lower tunes. Put it in the lowest tune, and wait for all the shifts to be perfect before going up to the next level. For me, this is usually a couple of weeks. The longer you wait the better. Your Allison will thank you.

Will do, thanks for the info. I ran the 110 for most of the day, runs real smooth. Went and got Chinese Food for dinner, in the lot I popped in the 135, as I pulled out I got into it, fishtailed and left a haze of grey smoke from those big BFG's. I couldn't stop giggling.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif Then I remembered how old I was and put an end to the prepubescent behavior before I got in trouble. I don't know how guys run the big dog tunes all the time. I would not be able to keep my foot out of it. I should do myself a favor now and just use the tire calibration http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

I only have the 125 Juice on my truck now. It does make it fun to drive. I do know how the big dog tuners feel. I have a 87 monte carlo with a 600hp engine. And let me tell you, there is nothing like being able to light up your tires at will. I just can wait for the day when I can do it with my truck.......I'm almost there.....
