I just ordered the filler from TransferFlow to the other day....and of course the guy on the phone tried to sell me a bigger tank. I think it was 45gal. and being the me...I started thinking that would be good to have a big tank My question is this to the guys that went with a bigger tank....Did you loss the "Miles to Empty" option with the bigger tank or can that just be reflashed to update the high capacity tank? What about the fuel guage did that still maintain its accuracy?

Thank your time....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I can chime in on the in-bed aux tank. I have the 50gal, and the computer and harness recalibrate the oem guage to indicate your total fuel on board, so in my case, a full tank is 76 gals, etc. Not to mention I recieved the trax UFS lcd readout thingy. That shows amount in main tank, amount in reserve, and amount combined. The miles to empty does not work anymore, it goes by what the oem guage sez I guess and is off.

I'm not sure if it's still the same, but the Fast Fill Neck Kit for the OEM tank used to be different than the kit they used for their increased capacity tanks.

I added the 56 Gal TransferFlow tank and the larger filler neck. The main dash gas guage works just fine. The miles to empty is in error to the conservative side - however - that is not necessarily bad. It is still a good relative gouge and I can definitely go all of those miles. I don't have to worry about the next gas station for a while.

Why? I have seen this mentioned off-hand in other posts but haven't seen a reason yet for the change.

I got the tank because I was crossing Canada and wasn't sure how many fuel stations would be open - and added the filler neck to allow the use of the larger truck nozzles. Neither were necessary but nice to have.

Oldman,

I'll tell you..first I wanted to be able to use the OTR pumps. Went out and got a filler for the 4500 trucks. This did not work, because the fill vent is a plastic tube that is connected to the restrictor in the filler itself. So, reading about guys removing the restrictor-plastic tube and the fill working fine I decided to try it. It does not work for me at all....so now I have a 4500 filler that I can not use and stock filler that no longer works properly. So the next step was to order the TransferFlow filler. It is the same set up the Fords use....the same set up I am used to. So there you have it...me and my ultimate wisdom!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Nowake200 I have the T/F 45 gallon tank and love it. I don't have the DIC in the '01 (not an option at that time), but the regular fuel guage works fine. Right now sitting in my driveway the mileage on the last tank says 654 miles. I have another 75 miles to go before I chicken out and re-fill the tank. Low fuel light comes on about 50-75 miles from being out/dry/Loss of power etc. Have driven all the way from home (N. California) to Las Vegas and didn't fill up until I was headed home. I really like the capacity compared to the stock 26 gallon tank. I kept the stock tank just in case I trade trucks and can put it back in and keep the 45 gallon for the next truck.

It's a little pricy, but when towing is where the real value comes in with the extra capacity especially at night when you are not sure where the next station with diesel is. Don't have to stop so often. To me it's worth it. With the big neck and big tank I can fill up and be gone faster than I can make the pit stop to the men's room LOL

Install is easy and you should go for it.

Curby and Oldman,

I had Greer Tank in Anchorage build my 60 gal bed tank. Cost was $325 I believe. Beats hauling only 26 gals down the ALCAN. With 86 gals I have a range of about 1000 towing miles.

Does there appear to be any warranty issues with the Transfer Flow fuel tank? Just wondering what GM's position would be. Is this altering the fuel system, like some service managers claim for additional filtering?

I am really wanting this "possibly approved" Racor kit to be just that. and combine that with the 45 gallon tank!

Never heard of any kind of problem having the T/F 45 gallon tank or any AUX tank for that matter. Don't think GM would get that silly. They are probbaly more concerned about what's in the tank than the tank itself. I would think T/F has already addressed this, give them a call.

Ok, I understand the larger filler neck now, thanks. Is this TF tank a replacement for the stock or in addition to it? I'd love to put a bigger tank underneath the bed.

It replaces the stock tank. Some have discussed moving the 26 gallon tank to the right side and plumbing it in, but don't know anyone who actually did this.

They sell it as a replacement, and it was around $700.

It would be great if they came that way from the factory.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

But then people would be crying about the $60 everytime they fill up.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Could be a problem with the exhaust system taking up that side. I'm "intrigued" by the Supertank 60 gallon replacement, but I wouldn't install unless I could remount my fuel cooler on the right side or in the fender in the left side and would have to move my 6-way selector valve outside the frame rail to use the new tank with my in-bed aux. Too big a project to even consider until the weather breaks!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Here is a 62 gallon supertanks replacement tank. It is up to $415.01 and the reserve has not been met yet. I don't know anything about these tanks but it is another option.

They're new to the scene, I'm surprised one is on Ebay already! Look here for more info:

Well, that is definitely a Supertank! But I personally wouldn't touch that story or deal with a ten-foot pole! Romania? Left over "store inventory?" As far as I know, Supertanks is brand-new to the marketplace and being manufactured in Oregon. I would drop an email to them and ask them how some of their units got to Romania before bidding. On the other hand, if it is on the up-and-up, the tank is $985 retail from Supertanks!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

It's a poly tank? unlike T/F steel tank. They say they can get up to 75 gallon tank in the stock truck. Very interesting, but if I don't put somehting on the right side, this puppy will start to lean to the left at 75 gallons. LOL

I went to the Supertanks website, that guy on Ebay looks spooky. Plus he's selling them new at $538. Maybe these are the rejected prototypes LOL. Anyway, might check it out for future consideration, down the road.

At first I thought it was a smart way to launch a new company with cheap advertising by putting one on ebay, but that email back wiped out that thought. Something is weird anyway as the bidding is up to $600 a few minutes ago and he says you can buy them all day long for $538.

Buyer beware as always!

To clarify a little, I don't think the e-bay seller is the one that sent the e-mail. I think the one on e-bay is probably legit. This e-mail looks as if it came from Paris or somewhere. What I would like to know is how he got my e-mail address as I did not e-mail him or contact anyone at all.

It says on the item page that the seller is in Layton/Salt Lake City area. It says nothing on the listing about preapproval to bid. Hacksaw, if it is not a private auction(it's not), you can go to the bid history and click on any of the bidder's user id and a page will come up for you to send them an email through ebay. Ebay likes for people to report the emails like the one you received to them as they frown on people trying to go through them to sell a product in a way that they will not receive their fee. BTW, most of those preapproved overseas auctions are a scam.

On Edit: I have emailed the seller to find out what the deal is.Edited by: flhrciblueice

I was looking for a tractor and saw one on ebay. I emailed the seller asking questions and got back something similar. "I am originally from New York, but live now in France...yada, yada' NO THANKS! This smells as bad as a dog poot to me!
