: Did the Optic Bump w/ Heath Reflash

Moved the optic 1mm to the passenger side. I didn't scribe a line as I don't like making irreversable changes. I dug through my pile of allen wrenches and found one that just fit between the casing and the optic, 5.5 mm, then found a punch that measured 6.5 mm and move it until it just fit.

Seat of the pants feel it "might" be slightly faster, hard to tell. The shifts are definatly slightly firmer and I am pretty sure I noticed more smoke when I mash the petal from a standing stop.

I didn't have any idle changes.

My guess is I am already at max fuel with the Heath Reflash.

Thanks, Andy.

From your description, I don't think you changed anything at all.

Sounds like you made the same common mistake everyone does their first attempt. The optic sensor is bolted to the cam ring with a Torx40 head bolt. You have to loosen the bolt quite a bit to make it loose enough to move the optic sensor relative to the cam ring. Other wise your just pushing the cam ring over which doesn't change anything. It moves back and forth constantly during operation with changes in internal advance.

Thanks, if I didn't move it why would my shifts we noticable firmer? I also think I noticed increased smoke from 0 to 20% throttle. I don't think it ever smoked during part throttle transition before.

How would I know if I went too far?

Did you loosen the t-40 before you did the bump? If not then you didn't bump, just moved the whole assy. ;)

Yes, i sure did.

Is it unreasonable to think with the reflash I am already at Max fuel?

Your shifts are firmer due to the Haeth reflash.

I have had the reflash for about 1 year, they are even firmer since they bump.

Sorry, I thought you just did them together. Maybe Bill H or TDG can tell you why.

If you loosend the bolt and moved the whole cam assy. then it is possible that you might have moved the optic sensor a little too. I did mine again this weekend now that I know what to do. I noticed more power and alot better throttle response. The throttle is alot more touchy now.

Absolutely. Chips/Reflashes can only push a pump to its mechanical limits AS IT IS CALIBRATED. Changing the position of the optic sensor changes the calibration of the pump, retarding it advances timing and increases fuel delivery. I've done some testing with them on the test bench, you can make a 5521 put up 92+ mm of fuel, but you can't make it idle or run right if you push it that high. Assuming you have an 83mm chip right now, post bump you could be maxxing around a real world 87-89mm.
