OK, Ide like to build the engine in my 01 in the next year or so. A search really didnt yield any threads that were worth a damn.
Im kind of wondering where guys in the northeast have had there motors done? Who has put there own together? Who have you guys used for machine work? My local engine shop whom i would prefer to use does not have the plate for boring duramaxes and doesn't seem interested in buying one.
Also curious to hear from the guys running the So-cal strokers......
After some browsing, the general consensus is all the aftermarket rods are good and guys are making 800 horse on cut lb7 pistons. Im thinking i can do a reasonably stout short block for $8-10k? Thoughts anyone?

I'll answer you as much as I can. I think you'll have to budget around 10.5K for the short block unassembled . I had Socal Diesel build mine, they ship everywhere and I can say it's very well built:) I don't have their stroker kit but you be looking at more then 20K for a that in a assembled short block. I would say your right about the rods, go with whatever you like or is cheapest and the cut and coated LB7 pistons seem to work very well, I've pushed mine over 800 ponies without a bit of trouble. Feel free to PM me if you want to know anything else and I'll try and help.

If your going to go stroker you'll have much better luck with a crank that's been internally balanced. Imo carrillo rods can't be beat.

If i go stroker, i think ill just dig deep and order the whole smear from So-cal.
How driveable are the strokers? Anyone running strokers with small ish turbos?

There work is good, there is a Danville built truck floating around here in NY, the owner is a pretty sore loser and couldn't differentiate the turbo charger from the spare tire winch. But the truck is still awesome. Probably a little further than i want to have to ship a bunch of stuff though.
I talked to my local machine shop again, he did tell me that we have made the couple plates he has that he didnt buy, so unless a plate to bore it is pretty cheap, im thinking were going to make it. Im thinking im going to do most of the assembly on my own at this point, which means finding core motor so i can peck away at it in my spare time.
Anyone who has any pointers, experience or regrets from there builds please do feel free to add your 2 cents.
