Just bought my first diesel, and I'm happy with it. Towing a 10,000 pound fifth wheel, and I'm almost happy with my fuel mileage. Just did 4,000 miles, and averaged 10.9 MPG. Best mileage was at 60 MPH or lower.

Question: what after-market modifications should I consider, or is 10.9 MPG average or above in expected performance. I can't see spending thousands of dollars to only get a mile or two better fuel economy.

Your input?

You could run Liquid propane. A LP injection kit will run you about $1K or so, give or take a couple hundred. Depends on how elaborate a system you want. Members are showing 2-4mpg increase, in addition to alot of extra power.

Taller tires help reduce engine RPMs, which means the engine's drinking less. :)

A tonneau cover for the bed to reduce wind resistance. Several people I know have done this and have gained at least one mpg point.

The most significant thing you can do, which by the way is ironically the cheapest, is to have a light foot (as you seem to have figured out).

Looks like Edge is 100%, oh wait, I'm the only one that voted.
