I have a '85 C20 6.2L. It has a 4 Speed Muncie Granny Tranny. I am wanting to replace the tranny with a so called 5 Speed out of a '90. (4-Speed O.D.) My truck has a 4.10 rearend, and winds out pretty good at 65MPH. I have located a tranny. What I need to know is, will this tranny work and will it last? I do not tow much with the truck, but a car trailer once in a while. I am even considering putting 3.73 gears in the rearend.

If it's out of a '90, it's probably a Getrag transmission, which I don't think is a good choice. You're probably going to want the NVG 4500 5 speed out of a '92 up Chevy truck...it's a lot better and more reliable.

Get the transmission and bellhousing off of a chevy with the NV-4500. Good thing about GM the bellhousing bolt patterns are all the same.
