I Finally took my truck in to the shop today for the Rear seatbelt recall. I also had the steering rattle.

Well I also asked them if they could check the injector balance rates ( Thanks, Without you fella's on the board I would not have known to even ask ) while I was there since I had the bad knocking when I go the mountains.

What they did.
Fixed the rear seatbelt (recall)
Changed the Fuel Fiter ( recall )
Fixed the Steering rattle.

And I go back next week for new injectors. He said that # 5 was way out so so he says that he will replace it, and while in there may replace them all.

No codes, no loss of power, no excessive smoke and no fuel in the oil YET..... Just that loud Knock.

This is a 2004 with 26000 on it.

I could feel the rattle/bumping through the Steering wheel. Specially when Turning and going through a dip or over a bump.

Im 80,000 I had taken it in at 25,000 and they told me at the dealer this was a intermediate steering shaft so the fix was to lube it well the other day a year later and it started again so it is out of warranty.

I took it off and drilled and tapped a grease zerk in it and put it back on and then lubed it that is the best fix so next time it starts I can just grease it

There is two bolts one under the dash and the other under the hood remove them and just pull it into the out from under the dash look where it slides and you will see where it needs the grease. 14 or 15mm heads

With the shaft being close to the exhaust it will cause the grease to run out over a period of time.

The steering shaft is an issue has been for years. There are a lot of post on here regarding this issue, just make sure you take tell them you want it fixed not just greased. I had it done for no charge, 10000miles ago and no return of the noise yet.
