VALENTINE 1

We took a trip to Chicago and did a side by side with a Cobra I think. There was no comparison. I think there have been a few that have done a side by side with the high end Passport I believe, but I can't remember the results. I am happy with mine.

INSTANT ON IS HARD TO BEAT THOUGH..........

CB radio beats radar detectors most of the time... as long as there is traffic on the road.

I bought an Escort 8500. Using it over 2 yrs so far & no tickets! (I normaly run 70mph+ everywhere I go).http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif

The following links have some good ratings & rated the 8500 a 97 of 100 score. Not to satart a war, but thay rated the V1 at 77 of 100.

PDS,

No problem about a warhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif....however, the 2002 Car and Driver tests gave the 8500 a score of 73, and the Valentine 1 a score of 97. Also on a scale with max score of 100.

I have run both side by side, and I bought the V1 as I found it to be more sensitive.

I think that Radar Test site has a bug up their butt about the guy at Valentine so I would take their rating with a grain of salt.

No problem with me either way! I did'nt know about the issues between radar test & the V1. Personally, I think either one will do. From what I have heard, they are the two best on the market.

Howsomever, neither will work very well if you are #1 in line & your tagged with instant on radar. All they do then is let you know you got an expensive ticket http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

We use the V-1 and are constantly taking a beating in Maine,Georgia and Ohio. Was looking for the next level of equipment.

Think you prebably have the best and are just getting hit by instant on. Only sure thing would be to know where they were and that comes from warnings by truckers and others heading the other way. CB's or headlight flashers. Is it me or is it just here in S.C. but no one seems to do that anymore. Used to be if you "warned" someone with a flash they flashed back a thanks. Never get that anymore even from the 18 wheelers and never seem to get the warning either.

On the local highways here at home, flashing to warn is getting to be pretty rare too. I think about the only ones that do it anymore are the good old boys that have been here forever......

I have used both the V1 and 8500. I kept the 8500. Smaller and works better. V1 is nice for indicating bogeys and front or rear radar, but the 8500 works better and falses a lot less.

V1 and a CB, would use anything else if it worked. BTW the passive jammers are junk.

I have the V-1 and unlike others it's a "Radar locater". You can't beat the direction indicators. The big problem in Washington State, is that the Highway Patrol uses Instant On and Lazer almost exclusively. Because of this, the value of any detection unit is nearly zero.

I remember my dad having one of those. If i remember correctly,it was battery powered and was sold at Canadian Tire.He graduated to a Bell Micro-Eye after that one.He used to run a 1975 Caprice classic ,4drHDT ,dark blue with a White vinyl top and wire wheels. It had a 454 in it .So that being said the radar dectector should be 75 vintage?

Early, early 60's

The next piece of literature in the folder is the purchase on April 24th,
1961 of a 'Radar Sentry' for $39.95 from Radatron, Inc., North Tonawanda NY.
The 'Radar Sentry' was one of the first radar detectors available for cars.
I draw the conclusion that during the first 6 weeks of ownership, Mr.
Ellwanger had a problem with excessive speed. A common problem among 300
owners, as I hear it.
