Hi all,
New to the fourm some great posts and a wealth of good info. Question for you:

I Plan on buying new GMC CC 2500HD 06 in Oct. to pull 24-28 ft. 5th wheel, which I also have yet to buy. However I keep on going back and forth on SB vs. long bed. Some background: I live in the city so getting arround in the long bed would be a little more diffucult, I guess but I will not be using every day maybe 7-8 times a month and the occasional trip. So what are the pro and cons of SB vs long and if you had a choice which is better to tow a 5th wheel. I have read about the sliding hitch need but would like your thoughts.

:) Thanks in advance.

PS: does the long bed look "too long" on the CC

There is a slider kit for the 5th wheel when used with a short bed. This helps keep the cab from getting hit by the front of the trailer when turning sharp. I have a slider, but have never used it. All of my new trucks are long beds, but I dropped down to extended cab to help in town.

Thanks for the input. At this point I would lean toward the LB..

Thats a tough choice. I prefer longbeds on a reg cab & ext cab platform. On a crew can that is a looooonngg truck. And the 5th wheel sliders on the Short beds seem to work pretty well. I guess it all comes down to your preference. Drive both of them and see what you like better

click link on sig.... long bed looks just right on a CC. Only in town problems I've faced is the parking, I learned to see how to get it out before you put it in(your comments here). Driven through many large cities w/gooseneck with no problems, I prefer longer wheelbase, feels more stable to me.
Best parking is reverse into corner space, can pull straight out

I have a short bed and a slider for my 5th wheel. I seldom need it but it is handy. IT works really well and is very easy to use. I like both but I have no complaints with my SB CC. I pull a 27ft Four Winds.

Short Bed pulling 38 foot 5ver have a slider but have not had to use it as long as you watch the cab. Handles just fine without the hassle of a long bed when not using it to tow. My $.02

For just towing a 5ver either SB or LB will work. If you will be working it as a truck you might find the LB more useful for lumber, plywood, tools, etc. My logic with buying a LB was to minimize limitations on a $40k+ truck. Good luck. JJ :)

I have a SB and pull a 35' 5ver. I also have the slider hitch. I have not used it but once on a tight camping spot. My wife likes the SB as well.

I think you answered your own question here.

The long bed will be better for towing. More stable with the added wheelbase. It sounds like that will be the primary use for the truck. And you get 8gal more fuel capacity which helps on long trips.
