Not that we haven't got enough Edge posts to sort through, but I wanted to add my thoughts on the install process for other newbies that don't wrench frequently on their rigs (I change oil and filters and that's about it).

Got my Juice and Attitude monitor installed last night. Was very nervous with the pyro probe install, but it was fairly easy following the hoot method. Since that thread is closed, I wanted to add some of my observations to make it easier for a newbie next time:

1. I had to tap all the way through the manifold material in order to get my probe fitting started. This wasn't really clear to me from the Edge instructions, nor other posts. I had read almost every post I could find on this topic and had drawn a conclusion that I only needed to tap about half the thickness of the manifold. I ended up tapping the whole thickness and then some to get the probe started.

I ended up only getting the fitting about halfway into the manifold "skin" (not all the way through into the area where the exhaust travels). Very sturdy and should work. Probe gives accurate readings based on my EGT measurements from the previous diesel truck.

2. Other bothersome item to me is the connectors and lack of slack. The lower (larger) factory connector is bent at a 90 degree angle to get it all to hook up. This seems bogus and I need to search more to find a solution since this seems like asking for trouble in the long run as those wires get more brittle.

3. Tried to find a place to push the attitude wire through the firewall and was unsuccessful. I ran it like the Edge instructions show, but up here in WA state, I'm expecting a leak now around that door. Anybody have any ideas on how to get it through the firewall?

OBTW, the stuff rocks. Truck runs great!

You can run it through the steering colum hole(I ran my co pilot there becasue I ran outa room in the other location) or look for the hole for the plow prep. Its a flat spot on the dash and the inside there should be a hole in the insulation. Its twards the passanger side of the gas pedal. I drilled the hole and hosed the area with spray in bed liner. then you can get a gromet. Some years have the hole pre drilled. Can never have too big a hole or to many places to run wires through into your cab IMO. Ohters have used other holes or gromets but thats the one I used.

I also re routed the power wire for the intake heater and glow plug deal. Be carefull becasue there is a ground strap right by it and you dont want to touch em. Made a bit better fit for the bale conectors IIRC.

On my tap I only tapped about 1/2 way for it to thread most of the way in. Different taps I guess. Start small IMO......you can always tap furthur but you tap too deep and you could be in stor for a PITA.

Brief comment, Lock. Yes, you do have to tap all the way through the manifold material ("skin") to make full threads for the fitting. *BUT* the threads and fitting are TAPERED (National Pipe Threads), so it's very important that you don't run the *length of the tap* more than 1/2 to 2/3 of the way into the hole, because you will enlarge the threaded hole so much that the fitting will either run out or fall in without "wedging" itself in the tapered threads.

Ahhh. There's the clarification I was looking for. Yes, that's a better explaination of what I did last night. Good post!
And yes, I found this out by going reeeeaaaaallllyyyyy slow with the tap. Half a turn, check. another half turn, check and on and on until it threaded in.
