Hi guys, I need help looking for a pre 1985 style GM 305 block, perferably bored 0.30

Story: my brother has been trying to restore a 1977 Chevy C-10 BIG 10 model pickup, as a school project. Frame up. orginally came with a 350 but previous owner put in a 305, which was trashed.

he decided to rebuild the 305 it came with. got all new parts for it, bored the block 0.30 and had it rebuilt.

the time comes to get it started..and eventually determines something wrong. starts poping plugs to do compression checks. gets to one..and water gushes out!-:t

take the engine apart, milky white oil everywhere, what a mess. water jacket cracked into a cylinder and thats all she wrote. guessing the guy who machined the block never checked it for leaks! and now hes unreachable!

so we take a running 305 out of a 1985 C20 pickup. knew something wrong with a lifter. strip it down, take it to another guy to get machined. he does a chemical test, and finds a 5" crack!

we dont have any more, junkyards arnt really stocked with that engine..theres one or two but have had parts taken off..rainwater down in the engine...the 0.30 305 parts have already been bought..short on money now because of the rebuilt cracked block.

hes been looking on places online..says he cant really find any.

anyone have suggestions? places to look? wanted to get locally but seems to be dried up...so forced to go online. shipping will be a hurt.

any help or suggestion at all would be great, thanks!

Try looking for a SBC 350 block. The 305 is a less desired engine anyway. I wish you would have inquired about this a couple months ago. I had a 4 bolt main 350 block w/ freshly ground crankshaft bored .30 over that I sold for cheap...almost too cheap. Look for the 350 block you wont regret it. Also try looking at http://car-part.com they have alot of stuff on there.

I've got a '78 305 out of a Camaro that I've had since new. It's a known good motor but needs to be freshened up. Has 100k since I last rebuilt it. I'd part with it, but it's a helluva long ride for you to come & pick it up... Sorry

350 was the wanted choice but he went with what he had on hand. now it would be alot more to get a 350, rebuild it and all new parts as well. on the other hand he has all his brand new 305 parts....and now no block to put them in.

I jokingly tell him nows the time to put a 6.5TD in!

btfarm, thanks we will keep it in mind.
