Let me try and make this clear, I have a 03 Duramax and find on occasions to keep my engine around 2000 rpms, it must run in 5th and converter not locked to maintain around 50-60. I like to run around 2000 rpm. This is while towing a 13,000lb load. So the Questions are:

1) Is there a way to keep the converter from locking up in overdrive? Is it electrical and can I tap into the line somewhere?

2) Will this hurt the tranny in any way? I suppose warrenty is also an issue.

awesome truck and do want to keep it that way. Have juice and attitude but do not go over level 2 while towing.

best bet is to lock out o/d for that, if you disable the conv, you will create heat. Not a good idea.

If you lock out Over Drive you can achieve 50/60 mph at 2000 rpm ....

What are you concerned with luging ??

you want 5th gear lockout not converter lockout just as the others said.

Yes Mac, I didn't want to lug the engine. I read somewhere on this forum that it is best for the tranny to not run the engine under 1800 rpm.

Also I was hoping to split the shift between 5th and 5th converter lock up. I thought it would give me a little more edge on the hills. One thing that did concerned me in 5th only was slippage, and its effect on the tranny and life of the tranny. It sounds like heat is an enemy. Maybe I just need to slow down or speed up a small amount.

I appreaciate the answers from all you. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Don
