My mirror motor went out so I took a chance and installed the new style heated mirror with turn indicator. Everything works. On my other van with no signal that was broken I put my old signal mirror on, apparently the van is prewired for the signal mirror,it works on it with no problems .I thought I could post a pic from my phone. No luck so photos later of the new style mirror which has much better visibility.

I have been thinking about putting on mirrors from 2008+. It looks like the 2 separate mirrors on each one would be much better.

so you're saying the newer mirrors will plug and play on my 06 van?

the stock single mirrors suck. i put little round convex self-stick mirrors on for better visibilty, on the bottom corner of the mirrors, which help out tremendously.

where's a good place to get the new style mirrors for a decent price? i have heated power mirrors by the way.

Try ebay, this guy has the power mirrors with two piece for 65 a piece.

You could also try velvac, we use their mirrors on our dually models of the van on our cutaways and they work excellent. They are standard equipment from GM on cutaway series savannas and express vans

I have learned my lesson about cheap mirrors on the internet ,I bought one and all it did was shake despite stuffing napkins in it , they don't have the metal mounts . This mirror is a GM mirror and works perfectly . When I purchased the passenger mirror I wanted the parabolic lower mirror ,so I gave the info that it was a passenger window van . If you order for a cargo van you get the straight glass on the lower , it must be a liability thing that you can check to see if objects appear closer in a window van , but you really need the parabolic in the cargo van to see . I hope I am making sense lol.

I have manual mirrors on mine which makes it a even bigger pain in the ass. I just looked on Gm parts direct and they show 08-11 manual mirrors for about $ 85.00/piece. For that price I think I will go with new GM instead of take chance on cheap aftermarket.

ok, i swung by a dealer today, and saw a van with the 2 piece mirrors. i sat inside to see how they work, but i still dont like them. i actually prefer my original mirrors with stick-on round convex mirrors on the bottom corner.

anyways, i wanted to see if i had the wiring in the door for the turn signal, and i got it. so i'll be installing turn signals on my original mirrors. i'm going to try and take some pics and maybe do a how-to.
i feel having the signals on the side of my extended van will make the van more visible when turning, cause its hard to see the front and rear lights from the side. that, and it should look cool, lol.

The split mirror does take some getting used to but I have found it to be much better in the dark and rain than the round ones , maybe because you aren't picking up the street lights and other clutter that doesn't need to be seen .

for those without the split mirrors, the stick-on convex mirrors are a must in my opinion. they help tremendously.

after sitting in a van with the split mirrors, i still think these work better, and for a whole lot less $$. it'd be nice if the newer split mirrors had a more convex bottom mirror.

i bought these at wallmart a few years back.

That ebayer sold several new takeoff split mirrors at $50 (make offer). $125 total for both sides with S&H. http://offer.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&_trksid=p4340.l2564&item=140532864970

I assume the wiring harness is there in a non-power mirror van to add power mirrors.
How much is the control knob?

Are extendable power mirrors (similar to the OEM pickup truck mirrors) that fit GM vans available?

Any ideas about what it takes to add the control knob for power mirrors on a van that originally had manual mirrors?

I think the power mirror control knob might be this:
Switch, Rear View Mirror-inside & outside, part # 20945027
which is #22 on this diagram:

Looks like the control knob probably snaps into the bezel (called a "plate" in the parts list), which is #23 on that diagram above.
This little plastic bezel or plate may cost more than the control knob/switch.

if you look at the pictures, you can see the my mirror switch hanging, and the connector for the mirror itself. i'd imagine you could take off your door panel, and see if you have the connectors there already. if you do, it may just be a matter of getting the mirrors, switch, and the trim plate for the switch.
