My check engine light came on and a trip to Autozone revealed I need a glow plug for the #5 cylinder .Since we are hitting the high 90s around here I am in no hurry to replace it . So my question , which cylinder is #5 and how hard is it to replace . I haven't opened my doghouse in 5 years since I put carpeting in,I,m guessing thats my first step and once I purchase a glow plug I imagine it will be obvious what I will be removing . Thanks !!

isnt it a good idea to just swap them all out while you're there? they dont cost too much.

Just replaced #4 on my van. I was suprised at how easy it was. I did not replace all as i dont believe in replacing something that isnt broke. We pulled engine cover but it wasnt necessary as we did the work in the wheel well. Got an AC Delco glow plug made in Germany from my local parts store for $18 and change.

I waited until 2 glow plugs where throwing a code before I had all 8 changed. First one went out in late April and then next one went out in mid October. That was back around 282k no problems since. Dealer said labor was only a little more to do all 8 instead of just the 2. So all 8 got the boot:D

I just had 1 glow plug replaced at the dealership. $79 for evaluation which goes toward labor and $37.50 for the glow plug. The tech said I should only replace 1 since the truck has just 37,500 mileage.
