I was wondering if the fuel rail is covered under the the engine warranty. I took the truck to the dealer for a major fuel leak and they called and told me it blow the fuel rail presure senor out and the need to replace the fuel rail which will cost about $650. I asked if it was under warranty and he said he would have to check into it. I just won't to have my ducks in a row when he calls back.

That should be covered by the engine warrantee.

Also the Smog warranty which does not have a $100 deductible. Read your owners warranty manual.

Chipper,

Read the owners manual is good advice, but he probably has it in the glove box and he stated that the dealer has the vehicle...

No way would I pay for it if it's under 100k mi. Injectors and pump are warranty pieces, so what's between 'em should be as well.

Plus, it's not like YOU could do anything to damage the fuel rail or sensor, unless you happened to run an old pressure-type performance box, but those seem to have faded from the market.

Hell 100 bucks for a 650 piece plus labor..sounds like a good deal to me.....
I paid the 100 deductible recently for FPR, injector and other little stuff: a list of work....I got a check from the dealer a week later for 100 bucks..all it said on the stub was GM covered under warranty...

First question,If this is an LB7 the fuel pressure sensor is in the distribution block not the fuel rail.Second if the sensor come loose it should be able to be tightened. It has a soft iron seat and there is a history of them coming loose.I doubt that it pulled the threads because if it comes slightly loose it will leak terrible and you could not drive it long enough to damage the threads.Ask to see the part. The sensor can not unscrew more than 1/4 turn. There is a wire harness attached.
The fuel distribution block(GM calls a fitting) includes the sensor pt#97208076 retails for $175.44. The sensor by itself is#97329566 @$243.24(don't ask why it's more expensive but it is)
The bottom line is someone is stroking you. That leaves $400 labor for a 2 hour job.
IT IS WARANTY 5yrs 100k. Tell them to look in there pollicies and proceedures CD they were issued. Tim

Man that pisses me off, I asked to see the part the mechanic showed it to me and the sensor was still in the fiitting. He said it was leaking around the threads so they just ordered the whole fitting because he thought maybe the fiitting was bad to. I wish i would have known the sensor seated on the fitting like that. Could have tighted the thing myself. They also charged me $230 part # 97208076 (the fitting) what gives here, labor was $300, and $35 for an air filter. They also wanted to charge me for the fuel filter but i showed them my letter for gm that sovled that, should have known somthing wasn't right when I had to do that. I'am never taking my truck there again. Will have to fight this one.

Thanks Tim for your help

Well finally got a chance to call gm which called the dealer and talked to the dealer service general manager. Supposely its not covered under warranty and the manager said the fuel filter was plugged which could have caused the problem, what bs!! Fuel filter was changed 5,000 miles ago and they were trying to say that it was never changed. I change my oil ever 5,000 miles, filter every 10,000. So what that means is they void the warranty if you don't take your truck to them to change the oil. What good are warranties. Since I bought the truck used (at this dealer), they have no service records, I would have a hard time getting warranty if it is covered anyway. They said that they could get the regional rep involved and I told them to do it. Does anyone know for sure if it is covered or not. Thanks!

What your dealer is trying to tell you is that a pluged filter caused a fuel leak.Interesting.Ask them how this actually happens and causes the valve to loosen.Maitenance in no way shape or form can cause this problem. This is covered 5years 100k.Get the rep involved. Then while the rep is there ask them about the price gouging on the parts and labor.Your dealer is sticking it to ya. Don't stop till you have a good expanation and your money back.I want to see the rep even try to wiggle out of this one.Have them show you where in the policy and proceedures where this is not covered. If they can't find where it is covered I'm shure I can find it for them.
