gmctd 08-30-2005, 11:51 PM TD and various in\out-laws reside on the Gulf Coast, directly in line-of-fire during hurricane season.
Damage varied from total loss to heavy wind damage to power-loss with little damage. IIRC.
They are working out of the site with least damage, with several portable generators, starting the clean-up and repairs on the other sites.
Tim had heavy wind damage, but repairable.
He will attempt to post progress if and when services are restored.
PapaG 08-30-2005, 11:54 PM I hope everyone is ok.

nvmtnlion 08-31-2005, 12:30 AM Cool JD, thanks for the update. Glad everyone is OK. Stuff can be rebuilt.
knkreb 08-31-2005, 06:16 AM Thamks for de update JD. Glad to see you over here.
guybb3 08-31-2005, 06:18 AM Thank God he is ok. Reading the paper from up here, it looks really bad.
Billman 08-31-2005, 07:04 AM That's Good News, jd.
minisub 08-31-2005, 08:26 AM That is great news; saw the first video from Gautier and Pascagoula this AM and it looked really bad.
dmitch 08-31-2005, 09:04 AM Glad to hear everyone is ok. Wish TD all the best during the rebuild process.
SnowDrift 08-31-2005, 09:31 AM Thanks for the update! We've been thinking about him and praying for all those in that area. Horrible thing to go through and I can't even fathom the losses.
What can we do to help? We, as a group, all pull together when someone's truck is down. How about we see what we can do with the lives that are down? Any suggestions?

Fred482` 08-31-2005, 09:39 AM Personal items? We could ship needed stuff, clothes, meds, etc.
Moral support? We could call when things open up, email, guys closest could check for needs.
Financial help? We could open a trust acct. on local bank and put off our next upgrade for a while, contribute the money to the acct.
Spiritual help? Put them on the "prayer chain" at your local church.
Anyone close enough to get the ball rolling? I'm in, let me know....
SnowDrift 08-31-2005, 09:51 AM Yes. I'm in Ohio and that's plenty close enough for me. I've got to be honest, I'm thinking about putting together a team to head south equipped with trucks and trailers. Nearly everyone on this board is equipped with a hauler of some sort, or we would not be here.
I have vacation time left and am willing to sacrifice time for the needs of those facing disaster than to spend it at my leisure.
I'm scheduled to be in Baltimore, MD all next week for a meeting, but should be pretty free after that. By then, maybe we will have more definite focus on what we're doing. Any thoughts?

CanadianRigger 08-31-2005, 10:05 AM I just had 6 weeks off work and can not afford to take off more, i'd be happy to kick in a few bucks though to help with any effort needed!
dmitch 08-31-2005, 10:12 AM I'm in the same boat as CR, but count me in for a few bucks and other needed items as the need arises. God bless them all. I think this is beyond anyone's imagination. I guess you would have to see it.
SnowDrift 08-31-2005, 03:44 PM Should this be bumped over into another forum category to get more eyes on it?

Maybe a New Thread altogether?
The end of the "Katrina is a Cat 4" thread has taken a similar bend as this one.
I am good for a few bucks, but like others, can't get away (although I am not sure there is much anyone can do right now).:(
ratlover 08-31-2005, 04:36 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42868 is a thread bout pepper, I have a feeling there are a few reg members dealing with this right now :( I wish them the best.
SnowDrift 08-31-2005, 04:51 PM New thread started in the "Off Topic" forum. "Anyone ready to head south?"
dmitch 08-31-2005, 08:12 PM Shouldn't this thread be a sticky so people we see it better?
CanadianRigger 08-31-2005, 10:38 PM OK i really want to donate but not sure where or how, i would like to help out our fellow DP members if thats where the money goes. Besides TD how many DP members are in that area and effected by the hurricane. I trust TD (Turbine Doc) and if TD had the ability to set up a Paypal account for this purpose he would distribute any money's recieved fairly to all DP members in need.
I've got a $100 bill waiting to send somewhere.... (Ok its a Canadian $100 bill, it should buy a root beer or something down there)
gmctd 09-01-2005, 12:49 AM I've not had an update, but I would think, considering the price of gasoline fuel, that a Diesel generator - 7.5 to 10kw - would be very welcome.
SnowDrift 09-01-2005, 07:50 AM Wherever you guys think this topic should go, please feel free to move it accordingly. I just want others to see it. I don't know what "sticky" means, but if you say it's good, then we'll go with that. I left a message last evening with our pastor and talked with one of his full time ministers. I hope to hear something today that I can post. I'll contact the red cross today to get an idea of what we can start with.

Billman 09-01-2005, 08:14 AM Excellent idea, jd.
You wanna take up a collection?
gmctd 09-01-2005, 09:01 AM Past two weekends in ER for stress-induced high blood pressure have sorta sidelined me, Billy.
(Tim indicated having an old codger hanging around would be bad enough, but an old codger working the lame-duck syndrome would probably be unbearable........ ;) )
No ground phone service, and cell-phone towers are either toppled, or no power, so will need to wait to hear from him for any further info.
Looters and roving armed gangs are adding further stress to the already bad situation.
Not a good time for unknown vehicles to be driving into the area, while under a communication blackout.
Been wondering why armed gangs do not fall under the charter of Homeland Security - it is Terrorism on American soil, on the home front, on American soil, is it not?
Rape, pillage, torture, murder - a cultural heritage that has endured for millennia.........
Back to Katrina and Tim - if you guys can work out some arrangements, here on the Forums, he can find them when he can post.
Particularly anyone with an available small Diesel generator, or two.
Billman 09-01-2005, 09:18 AM Take care of yourself, jd.
I can't even Imagine the situation down there.
I would like to contribute like others have posted here.
Fred482` 09-01-2005, 09:00 PM I can send a check when we have a place. Keep me posted...
BlueOx03 09-01-2005, 09:08 PM Guys, I started a new thread lastnight in off topic after Tim called me, here's a link...http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42908
Sorry I didn't get this info into the 6.5 forum earlier...
BlueOx03 09-02-2005, 08:59 PM I'm heading out tomorrow out of Atlanta to salvage stuff from the base and take stuff to Tim...
knkreb 09-02-2005, 09:04 PM Thanks Blue. I tried calling, home line rings... to where I don't know. Cell still busy. Feel so helpless this far away.... fuel prices make a trip even harder to consider at the moment.
Turbine Doc 09-05-2005, 12:51 AM Hey Ya'll TD here we weatherd the storm, now braving the reconstruction, pretty grim in my neighborhood, only about 6 liveable houses left on my street, mine being one, once we get roof repaired, doing the tarp over thing for temporary repairs.
Sections of the Gulf Coast look like Hiroshima, water & mud in the house, neighbors 3 doors down have slabs only, when I get my own computer back up I'll post pics, I'm borrowing Blue Oxes to post this, thanks for all the kind words & prayers, plenty of work to do here will take years to recover, approx 100,000 homes on Ms Gulf Coast either gone or un-liveable. Special Thanks to Blue Ox, Gun Bunny and Diesel Pro for their random acts of kindness to get me some much needed supplies. I'm doing okay personally, of the 4 houses in immediate family we have one to operate out of, generator power for a week now we have phones & power, brother in laws houses first floors flooded out lost much stuff but just stuff families okay. But as a family we have been blessed, many others worse off, my church is starting to collect supplies anything you want to do to add to that I'll see that they get to folks in need. Keep in touch with me via Blue Ox.
knkreb 09-05-2005, 01:52 AM Glad to see you are alright.
Any 'specifics' on the list of stuff needed?
TurboTahoe 09-05-2005, 02:27 AM Glad to hear you are OK, Tim. What kinds of things do you guys need, specifically?
Sincerely,
Rob :)
Steve93mustanglx 09-06-2005, 12:34 PM I am leaving Richmond either Friday or Saturday 9/10 Sep with a truck load of supplies. I plan on going to MS to give it out.
Are the authorities letting people do that?
Where are you located?
Turbine Doc 09-06-2005, 03:29 PM I'm holding my own thanks to generosity recieved thus far, now I'm in position to help others.
No one is preventing passing out of supplies, I'm in Gautier next to Pascagoula, getting into the worst hit places is hard, in Biloxi South of hiway 90 has 24 hr curfew, possibly it is better to hook up with a church or Salvation Army with donations. Fuel is in short supply, long lines, if you want a easy in & out bring enough fuel to get yourself out at least 100 mile range worth of extra fuel would be a good idea.
I'm working with our Pastor to set up a collection point at our church, in interim I've been collecting donated supplies, canned food is good, as many lack refrigeration for perishables, gift cards, also a good thing Lowes, Home Depot, cell phone is 228-218-4631, which is best way to get me, also I have ans machine at mother in laws house 228-497-4080 & I'm here in evenings after 19:00 CST identify yourself clearly, I don't hear fast talkers well, so I can call back.
