: Heated and Cooled seats in SLT for 2012...?

Ok, I talked to a guy at a large dealership today who orders all of the GMC trucks for them. He told me that for 2012 you will be able to order the heated and cooled seats which for 2011 were only offered in the Denali. He actually said that he has already ordered a few like that for the dealership.

So can anyone out there confirm/deny this option? How about for Chevrolet LTZs? I would like to have this option but I do not want a Denali. Actually I would like a 3500 LB SRW which was not even offered in the Denali range for 2011. So to those of you who have access to the 2012 order sheets, is this true? If so it looks like it is time for me to sell my car and put an order in soon.

Also does anyone know what the new nav system is all about? I think these were the only real changes that I could see.

Thanks

This is not true according to the 2012 order guides. I too am a little miffed that I cannot configure a Silverado with cooled seats. I emailed GM and got the typical canned response -- no plans for that option at the moment as it wouldn't sell according to their research. BS. Oh well.

They do make a denali 3500srw, though -- that's what I'll probably be ordering in a couple of months.

If I had to guess, I think its probably a supplier issue.

Obviously GM doesnt make the seats; they contract it out to "ABC Seat MFG". Since the heated/cooled seats are a very low-volume option, GM probably didnt order a whole bunch of the heated/cooled seats from the seat MFG as a financial decision, because nothing kills your budget more than buying a shitload of parts and just stock-piling them without putting them in vehicles to sell to get your money back for the initial huge investment in the parts.

Thats probably why they limit availability to what vehicles they "allow" them to be optioned with.

Same reason when you get heated/cooled seats in an HD Denali, it deletes side-impact airbags. Again, supplier/cost issue. The heated/cooled seats with side airbags in them are obviously the most expensive seats out of all of them, so GM probably ordered the fewest of those, saving them for the light duty vehicles only, which need side airbags more than the HD trucks do. Which is why side airbags have been available (standard on the SLT/LT's) since 2000 on the light duty SUV's, and standard equipment on all of them since 2007....yet side airbags werent even optional on the HD trucks until 2011. Hopefully for the 2013 model year side-airbags will be standard on the HD's.

Unlike HD's, the light duty trucks/SUV's have published side-impact ratings that are available to consumers...and they are higher sales volume vehicles and are lower to the ground/lighter. So if you only have X amount of seats with side-impact airbags to work with in your inventory....which vehicles are you going to save them for/use them in and which vehicles are you going to not put them in???

Yes I know its kinda "cheap" and "BS" of GM to do this (the heated/cooled seats being hard to get in the HD's, and the heated/cooled seats WITH side-airbags being impossible). But in reality, the HD trucks do perfectly well in side-impacts without supplemental restraints, simply because they are higher up and heavier than the light duty trucks/SUV's.

And FWIW, for the 2010 model year, ALL GMT-900's (SUV's, light trucks, and HD trucks) got a redesigned inner door structure with extra side-impact beams/bracing for increased side-impact protection....

Look on page 16 of the GMC order guide. RPO KB6. Heated and cooled seats ARE available on the SLT trim now. They're also available on the LTZ trim Silverado. In both cases though, they require you to also order the side curtain airbags along with them. For 2012 both are standard on Denali. The heated steering wheel and Bose Centerpoint Surround system are still unique to the Denali though.

In that case it might be time to sell my Magnum SRT-8. I love the car, but I really need another truck. Thanks for the verification. I would have liked the heated wheel, but I really want those cooled seats here in Texas.

Looks like your right.

I guess the LBZ gets one more year, the Denali is a bit much in the chrome dept for me. Maybe it will give the aftermarket some more time to figure things out.

Latest and greatest from GM as of Friday July 22, 2011.

ah ha! Cool. Thank you for correcting me. They must have had enough popularity/response to the heated/cooled seats in the HD's that they figured it was worth the $$$ to up production and increase the available inventory of the heated/cooled seats.

Nice to see that you can now get the heated/cooled seats with side-impact airbags.

I agree, the Detail is nice, bit too much chrome for me as well. It looks like the price is good for the option as well. I am sure I will have to order one to get the options I want, but it will be my truck.

Cool i'm glad they offer this on the SLT and Chevy, now I wish they would offer keyless start, adaptive cruise control, and bring back the 4 wheel steering and put it on the hd trucks.

Well if you like less chrome, you'll be glad to hear that the Z-71 "appearance package" is available on the Chevy HD pickups for 2012. Option code "WEA"

"NEW! Z71 Appearance Package, includes (PYV) 18" (45.7 cm) forged
polished aluminum wheels, (QGM) LT265/70R18E all-terrain, blackwall
tires, (T96) front fog lamps, body-colored outside mirrors and door
handles, body-colored bumper, chrome grille with body-colored
surround, unique "Z71" decals and sill plates"

You can upgrade to the 20" wheels; you're not limited to the 18" wheels. I'll definitely be ordering this on mine.

That is very cool. Are there any restrictions on ordering theKB6 and Z71 together? I would probably stick with the 18" wheels as there seem to be more load range E tires. That is great information though. I need to talk to the wifey and sell my MSRT-8, but we both agree I need another truck. I had been thinking about waiting on the next body style, but not any more. Does anyone know when the build sheets online will be up for the 2012 HD's?

I'll look again -- thanks. When this turns out to be true, you'll catch me doing a lot of this :D

How can you tell the stereo system is different between the Denali and the SLT/LTZ Silverado? I can't determine that from the order guide (although I know it has been discussed elsewhere in the past).

Thanks.

Oddly enough, I don't see any difference in the order guide either. I actually saw it in the 2011 GMC Sierra HD brochure... it mentions the Bose Centerpoint surround system and you can see there's an extra speaker on the top of the dash in the Denali interior picture. I didn't see any mention of it in the 2011 order guide either... very odd.

No restrictions/interdependency between KB6 and Z71. The only dependency on KB6 seems to be the requirement to order side air bags (and of course, LTZ trim)

The only restrictions on the Z71 appearance package are:

Requires (Z71) Off-Road Suspension Package. (PYV) 18" (45.7 cm)
forged polished aluminum wheels can be upgraded to (PYS) 20" (50.8 cm)
forged polished aluminum wheels with (QFC) LT265/60R20E all-terrain,
blackwall tires. Not available on Regular Cab models. Not available with
exterior color (37U) Imperial Blue Metallic.
