I read the other thread in this section telling how to turn up the injection pump. I took the side cover off (have the intake manifold off too) and I can see the hole where you watch for the screw to appear as you turn the crank. Problem is that thread says to use a 5/16" allen wrench, the absolute biggest allen wrench i can get into that hole is a 7/32" and thats a tight fit. 5/16" wont even begin to go. Is something wrong here? I still havent found the screw so I dont know if its the right size, im doing this by myself.

ah, there was a typo on that site. In one place it said 5/16" then it says 5/32". 5/32" sounds alot more like it. Maybe now I'll have better luck at it that I know what size allen wrench to use.

heres another tip to line up the hole for the screw. all credit goes to Dieselpro for this information.

> Mileage is not affected by this unless your constantly accelerating or pulling heavy loads. This setting is for WOT so if you drive it normally mileage will not change.

Go through side cover not the top. Tech tip: Pull the front cover off where the gear bolts to the pump. Turn the engine over till the pin (the one by the gear bolts) is in the ten O'clock position. The 5/32" allen screw then should be in the "window".

now thats a good tip. I didnt take the cover off, instead I just pulled the oil fill tube off. you can barely see the gear bolts and pin line up, but very possible.

I had trouble lining the screw up in the side cover, since I left the manifold on. tried for like 2 hours to find it. using that tip it only took 5 minutes!

also, theres also been a chunk out of my fan cover..always thoought someone leaned there with the engine running. wrong, it was cut out on purpose, I believe, to help line that pin up through the oil fill tube hole. I recommend!

Yeah, its a 5/32", that should help. Be conservative, 1/8th of a turn is gracious plenty on a 6.2 most of the time. More than that and you'll just be making black smoke.

Thanks guys. I ended up turning the crank a little, getting up in the engine compartment with a mirror and trouble light, back and forth about 10 times but I finally got it. I turned the screw from the 11 o clock position to between 12 and 1 o clock, didnt wanna over do it. I dont see how anyone does this with the manifold on and not removing the pump. Adjusting it is the easy part, getting the little cover and tiny screws back in is the hard part.

Good, hopefully thats enough and gets you where you want to be. you'll know its too much if you go WOT and theres alot of black smoke. all that is is wasted unburned fuel and expensive now adays as well.

my screw was tight. was super tough turning it..had to kinda use an extension to get the leverage on it..and then the manifold was in the way! but I was able to do it with the maifold in place.

I turned mine up 1/6th....just because of my air modification.

yeah the screw was tough to turn, used small vise grips on the allen wrench. I have a modified air intake, removed EGR, and true dual glasspack exhaust so I figured id make up for the extra breathing my engine has, and match it with more fuel while im replacing my blown head gasket.
