I just had a K&N spokesman come into the store pimping the product....So, I listen to his jargon as he goes on and on about this, that, and the other thing.:blahblah: .Then, he gets to talking about the cold air intakes....He proceeds to tell me that people putting the K&N intake system on a diesel are getting 150ft/lbs more torque just by putting that air cleaner assembly on.....I almost choked on my copenhagen.....The sad thing is, he's telling every shop that he goes into this load of bunk..

How many did I buy....zero....
He's lucky I'm here alone....If I would have had the time, I would have printed out SPICER'S air filter study and told him to choke on it...
He was a decent guy, actually sounded intelligent until he unload that line of bs on me...then it was AH! he's full of Censored ...

He's right! You will gain OVER 150FtLB with the K&N!!

if you were using wet sweat socks beforehand

Tornados are much more efficient and will give you twice the amount of tq that the K&N will.:ro) ):h

You know that claim might not be so far off. The LLY folks are seeing big gains using a cold air intake. When they run long hills and the motor is completely heat soaked the air intake is bringing in all that warm air. 150ft/lbs sounds quite a bit high but you never know.

Seems like a lot of quacks  make their living selling lies . . . .

I am surprised you didn't stuff a K&N in his mouth and see if it improved his power :D

BTW, I have two K&N's so I am not posting an opinion of their performance . . . .

one of you guys should contact K&N and tell them they have a rep that is ruining their sales with bad information.

I forgot to mention.....He said there would be an increase of 3mpg too...
To be fair, I'm sure adding a freeer flowing air cleaner setup would improve power...The problem that I have with the numbers he shot me is that I don't believe that any of the manufacturers would leave that much power on the table if they could just re-do their intake piping to realize that kind of gains....There has been a power struggle in the diesel truck market for years with each mfr. wanting to outdo the other...
So, until I see a member do a back to back comparison on a dyno proving these claims, my BS flag is waving in the breeze

Sounds like he may have previously worked for Banks.....

Maybe he meant 150 inch/lbs?

wow,

Doesn't surprise. The only way such a worthless product can survive is through deception and lies.

Aftermarket air intakes, the great lie.

Cold air is important, but mostly to the race and tow crowd. The KN cold air isn't remotely effective, unless you like dirt in your oil.

This is a common mistake I see.. he forgot to move the decimal point over two places.. 1.50ft/lbs

At least the K&N will keep out the leaves and some of the larger rocks!
:sheephumpDrawing shows the relationship between K&N & their customers.

You guys are a hoot! I will return tomorrow to read and respond intellegently. My aftermarket filter just let me freeflow about 12 Schlitz`s ,,,and Im gassed! No, wait,,I can still type,,I tried a test with no air filter vs stock and it didnt improve anything, but that was for very short acceleration runs uphill and 0 to 60,,so I kept the stock set up. Sorry for bein wierd,,just havin fun freeflowin. Time for #13,,LOL

I pulled off the K&N filter and Put a big A$$ UNI Cone Filter w/ another pull over UNI filter, Had to cut off couple inches of the intake tube. Its workin great and the turbo wine is awesome.

You know how it works, every saleman that gets formed by the previous one adds 25 lbs to the story to make it worthwhile. It probably began at 25 lbs and six saleman later we're at 150 lbs. I won't buy it until it's at 500 lbs

I think the real secret lies in STACKING the K&N with a Tornado.

And maybe add some fuel line maggots.

Im running the electric supercharger on mine, increases boost at least by 40psi,
far more superior than a turbo so I just removed it. Anyone want to be one? Or two?
