I'm talking about that big ugly 2" gap between the plastic on top of the bumper and the bottom of the tailgate. What can be done to cleanup that area. I noticed on some of the newer trucks it looks like GM redesigned the plastic piece on top of the bumper with a little lip that kind of covers the area. My 01' does not have that.

Put a "line of Fire" LED light bar to fill the gap. That is unless you live close to Humboldt, IA. J/K. It looks awesome in the dark and functions as turn signals/Brake Lights during the day. You can get them at www.stylinconcepts.com (http://www.stylinconcepts.com) Just my opinion!

I installed a OEM led clearance light off of a 3500 model. It helped to fill the gap.

Thanks,
I have seen these LED strips but I think they are a little much for my taste. I'm going to have the bed Line-X'd next week so I may just see if they can extend the coating to cover the metal in the gap. It should blend in better with the bumper.

DSengieer, I had mine line-x'ed and they cover that area as part of the regular application.

I just bought one of these light bars that go between the bumber and the tailgate.
but the connection from the light wont fit directly into the tow adapters. does anyone know of a quick way to install them or maybe a diagram of the wiring on the tow hitch?

I also hated that for a different reason. A lot of dust and dirt would flow up through that gap coating everthing above, plus stones getting trapped there. I put a piece of Aluminum angle across the area attached to the body sheet metal with 5 sheet metal square head bolts. I have a custom rear bumper and it lays just over the top edge of it to keep everything out. I have painted them both flat black and to match truck paint, using GM spray can paint. Works well.

On my truck I bought Truck-Lite brand LEDs that recess into a 3/4 in hole. Basically they are a mini version of a 2" round trailer light. Each has one bright diode in it. I spaced three of them the same distance as the normal cluster light. It worked well with my line-x. It is subtle during the day but looks good at night.
