I'm lookin into buyin a new set of rims and tires for my truck. What I need help on is I need a tire that is good for sled pullin and is ok on the road. I'm fine with having to rotate more often or tire noise. I'm lookin at a 285/75/16 or a 305/70/16. These will just be for pullin mainly. Any info will be great. Thanks

what kinda tracks do u pull on ? are u planing on putting them on stock wheels , they dont give u much of a foot print you can put the same tire on a 16x8 or 9 and gain any where from 1 inch to 2 inches contact on the surface

well he said he is getting new rims and tires, so if u plan on getting a 8 inch rim and if your in a area where u have harder clay tracks i would highly suggest the MTZ they wear great on the road and bit hard on the track, ive had great luck with them as a duel use tire and i know a few others that have too

What is the rim size u guys would recommend for pullin? Width? I was thinkin a 16x8 or a 9. What backspace would work for stock suspension with keys turned all the way down? I have only played around but now tryin to be competitive with the guys. The soil is clay like mainly. I have 18s but don't wanna use those for pullin.

for clay id go with bfg at or duratracs , i run 18x9 with 295/65/18 duratracs they have a +12mm offset and a 5.51 backspace

Duratracs are the best in my opinion. They bite great and wear well too.

ive never seen someone pull with Duratracs b4 so i can say anything on them, bfgs are alyways a good choice!! i have seen alot of people running the general grabber at2 the bfg ko knock off tire and guys are doing very well with them too and ther quite a bit cheaper for what im being told!!

So in most cases u would go with an at before a mt? Why is that? Just because its more street-able? Or because in most cases its hard pack clay tracks? Just tryin to get this figured out so I do what works best. I'm puttin twins turbos or big single so I will have way more then enough power to turn any tire. Thanks for all the input guys.

I was about to ask the same question. Not many people talk about pulling tires in the 265/285 16 size.

My theory for the 15 years that I have been pulling is the ATs have more tread biting edges to grip the track. The MT types don't have as many edges, and the deep grooves only serve as shovels to pile more dirt in front of the sled pan.
Most guys that I pull with that run MT tires sooner, or later switched to an AT type.
25 years ago when I first got into pulling as a spectator I noticed the modified trucks were cutting off the lugs from their huge bar tires and adding a smaller edge lug between the much shorter cut-down lug that remained. I guess this same theory applies to the MT/AT school of thought.

Yeah I guess I have noticed that While watchin pulls also. Just never looked at it that way. I have seen many trucks with the mts that's what was throwing me off but whenever u watch the big pullers they have the cut tires. Thanks again for your post.

Most people think mud tires are good for truck pulling, kind of like some folks think lifted trucks pull better. A common misconception that even some experienced pullers cant get past.
When i got my Cooper Zeons put on my truck last year my father looked at them and started busting my balls. His exact words "You cant truck pull with those tires" A hell of a season later and he was eating his words.
