:offtopic: As many of you here already know, I am a FORD Powerstroke 7.3 owner. i just wanted to make that perfectly clear. and im keeping the stroker. I am so sick and tired of people flaming me because i own one. For all you jerks that do it K M A!!!, you know who you are.

Anyways, this post is for the mature minded people here in this forum who have been help to me thus far.

I found another Used duramax i would like to buy, 2001 165,000mi cc dually 4x4. They are asking 19,000 for it. I never go by the blue book so i thought that i woul;d ask the guys who know best. Do you guys think that its a good deal, or what should i counter offer them.

Are there any specific issues that the '01 models have that i should be aware of.

I have driven this one all day, and run fun. btw, im buying from a private owner who had it since new. it was used for towing a fiver.

Thanks in advance for your help

I don't know where you live, but around here that's kind of high for that many miles. They usually sell for that with just over 100k on them.

I'm in the same situation as you Bud. Got a stroker (and keeping it)and am looking for a duramax. That sounds about right for what I've seen. Maybe a touch high. I'm looking for a 01-02 with around 75k and I'm thinking i'll have to pay around 25,000.
I'd run a VIN check on it here on this site. It could prove very helpful.

I won't knock ya. I just bought an 05 powerstroke excursion 4X4. I hope that it'll be a good one. I think all brands have problems, it's just the luck of the draw. I have an 02 Duramax/alli that has been a good truck and I am going to keep it. I think the price is a little high for an 01. I would counter offer. That is the first model year for the dmax. good luck.

The biggest issue I can think of is that it may still have the first generation fuel injectors. I would submit the VIN number on the VIN forum to see the service history. You still have 35K miles left on the special injector warranty, but after that, it can be an expensive repair. I would think that the number of miles on the injectors will impact the value of the truck.

I've read that there have been some Allison software updates that should be applied and some engine software updates also. That is a simple and inexpense repair, if needed.

I know someone with a 2001 and another with a 2002. Both are very happy with their trucks. I am not aware of any major problems with a 2001, other than potential injector issues. But that is is a problem with all the newer technology trucks, no matter what brand.

Good luck.

Check my sig for trucks and prices. Both around 160,000 miles. Very well serviced. Both around 18 mpg empty. I can supply a trailer for tests and You can drive either or both all day long if you buy the fuel. I am 30 miles east of KC. E-mail for info and pictures if interested.
