Had a great 1st experience towing my 30' 5'er high profile (11,373 GVWR) on the 5'er this weekend. Went I-80 W from the Pocono's to the Allegheny National Forest and back after two nights stay, just to test drive the truck and 5'er....WOW....this sure put my old 2500 6.0L to shame...real quiet, got over 11 MPG... trans temp never went over 160, water temp ran a constant 180 ....Can't ask for much more...only have 25K on the truck...Did not even realize that the 5th wheel was back there....this is my first diesel and am ejoying it.

Sounds like fun. Glad to hear you are using it for what is made for. I pull a Four Winds 27RL with mine and construction trailers during the week. I have over 140, 000mi on the odometer and still love it like the day I drove it home. Good luck and enjoy!!!

I went vertical this weekend (usually I'm horizontal on days off). Took the truck and trailer and family over the pass I actually bought the truck specifically for , for the first time. My last truck nearly grenaded pulling the same trailer over the same pass (coquahalla from Kelowna to Van and back)from heat , was slow, had to stop for gas half way (6mpg) etc....5.7 liter 1500. Well as you could expect it was a cruise with the duramax/alley. I thought it would be but you never know till you try. Flew by a couple fords and dodges on the big grades. Downhill no problem , engine and tranny held the load. Temps never got above normal ...rock steady. Alley dropped to 4th up the big grades and the dmax pulled like a frieght train. Only problem on the whole trip was small parking spaces at the Vancouver malls. Saw some underpowered trucks pulling RVs and I wanted to tell these guys about the magic solution I found (reformed ex-gassers are just the worst). Now I can get back to worrying about my damned rv hot water heater (leaking), why that brat in the other site wants to play with my sewer hose and how to keep then damned mice out of the trailer....Lord life is Good!

I can't wait to pull my trailer. My truck is still waiting to reach the 500 mile marker first.

What was the unit you pulled? I pulled my unit for the first time with my new Diesel and like you said it put my 2001 6.0 to shame. My unit weighs in at just about 12,000 lbs. My whole trip cost me half of what it did two years ago with the 6.0 and man it was a comfort to tow with as you could hardly tell the 5er was there.

I wasn't able to achieve the 500 mile mark... I picked up my new truck on a monday, on Wed morning I was pulling my 33' Prowler to Bristol.... :D I think I had about 200 miles on it when I left with the trailer...

I have a 2004 LB7 and it tows my 24' GN trailer with my Dodge on it 8,000lbs, 1,000lbs in wieghts, 1,000lbs in tools and tires, and the trailer wieghs 5,000lbs to the sled pulls, heck took it all the way to Idiana this year no problems at all. I added a intake, exhaust, and bullydog rapid power module makes even better :)
