I have a mostly stock 02 2500HD 6.0. I have about 50 hooks on so far and have been running a 305/70/16 (33x12.50) pro comp x terrain. It works well and has been usually top 3 in my local gas class. Just got a set of 215 85 16 firestone destination MT brand new for free.

My truck limiter is set up at 5950rpm putting me at a wheelspeed of 23mph on the limiter. Now these new tires are alot shorter and a ton narrower, so i am thinking about trying second gear which will put me at a wheel speed of 32 mph. Think my truck will have enough power to turn that? I know its quite a jump but i am hoping with how narrow these tires are it will spin them. Truck will sometimes spin a 35 12.50 (23.4 mph)

I know this is a diesel forum and mine is just a gasser but you guys are really the only forum i have for truck set up, tech etc. So anyone run a smaller narrow tire and try another gear?

I have pulled the same thing. Second gear will be a mistake unless you are running nitrous.

Agreed, don't think you will have enough power there to turn second gear. I would look for a set of tires that are taller. Depending on the weight class it can take a lot of power to turn a tire 32mph. Especially if the truck hooks well. Good luck.

My brother in law used to kick ass with his 01 rclb 6.0. 285/75/16s, 6200 rpm, grabbing second gear was never an issue for him, nor was it for my buddies 08 with 265s, or another guys 09 that was consistently in the top 5 around here. Around here gas classes are anywhere from 5800-6800lb classes.
