I have a 98 chev 6.5 ran great for 100,000 miles pmd acted up changed on warranty lasted 2000 miles changed again only went 250 miles and started acting up again. The thing that bothers me is that it seems to happen when it is not really warmed up and only once in a blue moon with no codes, and of course they will not change it again but keep charging me to check it out. I have checked all connections and because it is so erratic it is very hard to find the problem. I feel that the injection pump is going but they will not replace it . Would appreciate any advise. I have a code reader hooked up but no code will come up It had one code when I first hooked up P1216 which is suppose to be the Pmd has quit a couple times but code does not come up. Also engine usually fires right up.

Welcome aboard! If you haven't already, check out the FAQ sticky, and Welcome New Member Sticky at the top of the forum. It includes stuff about participating here on the 6.5 forum.
One other thing you may want to try is the Diagnostic Check List. It covers most of the common issues you'll have with your rig. By the time you've reached the bottom of the list, you've resolved the issue.
Sounds like maybe this is not a PMD issue, but something else. Possiblity you are having battery cable issues or something like that. May want to check it out.

As I understand the post, the PMD only was replaced....
Warrenty should have changed the pump asm.
My IP had " hiccupos/ quits only when warming up from cole start( about 30 minutes after starting ) and was good after it was hot.
Sounds like IP problem...

I have been told that the injection pump is probably the problem from other dealers but the local dealer will not change it unless they get some codes. I have been driving my truck all week with a code reader hooked up, and wouldn't you know it, it only quit one time and did not throw a code. This is the biggist problem is that it is so erratic it is hard to know if you find the problem. Tks for the info yours sounds very much like what mine is doing.

My buddy that works for gm says that he has to go through almost 2 hours of paperwork and phone calls to get a pump for one. It sounds like your dealership doesn't want to go through the paperwork to get a new pump and instead are working off of the tsb for IP related symptons(don't remember the # right now).

truck quit numerous times yesterday took to dealership no codes. Left truck overnight they say that the ignition switch is faulty $235.00 + labour hopefuly this is the problem as this unit has had 2 pmd approx $800.00 each time (paid for by GM) + the $500.00 I have spent on it .This had better fix the problem or bye bye chevy. Will let you know if it works out. Tks for all the advise.

my truck pulled a code 1216 and the dealership got me a new pump. they told me they needed to get a snapshot of the stalling but could not. apparently it is not enough to have a code stored in the memory. even though they could not get a clear snapshot they still got me a pump. they will also want to put a new fuel filter on it. do that. if they want to clean your tank and lines remind them that a code 1216 did not result from dirty fuel. but it's a good idea to change fuel filters regularily as they clog up more often than gas. Well I guess the ignition switch was the problem as I had the truck out all weekend pulling my 5th wheel and no problems. I took the old switch apart and found that all the contacts are spring loaded(closed) and a roller cam setup opens the contacts. It would not take very much for the switch to malfunction (a week spring or dirty contacts) anyway that is what you get for $240.00 + labour better than paying for a pmd though. Thanks again for all the info and I hope my problem helps someone else.
