: Past 100K??? (will you?)
Wickedsprint 01-23-2004, 11:07 PM Just out ofcuriosity, with injectors only costing about 270 apiece, and I am sure the price willd rop or aftermarkets will eventually become available...how many of you guys will trust to keep your trucks as primary transportation past the warranty period?? Or will any of you consider a trade in? Just random thoughts on my part.
hdmax 01-23-2004, 11:26 PM I purchased my truck August 9, 2002 and she just turned over 50,000 miles this week.
As long as she don`t give me any fits, I plan on keeping it for approximately 300,000 total miles.
If at some point I start having problems, I'll get rid of it. And Ford and Dodge would be considered. Maybe Nissan, if they have something by then in a diesel.
Aggie91 01-24-2004, 12:08 AM I plan to keep this truck until the wheels fall off & I can't glue them back on anymore. Hopefully that is at least 400K miles http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

John R 01-24-2004, 01:29 AM For what they cost, I plan on driving mine till there's nothing left of it.
Bronco 01-24-2004, 01:39 AM I will have my truck payed off before the 100k mark. I will then save one more years worth of payments and put it into an interest bearing account. This will pay for any major repairs and will get me to the 200k mark. I will continue this untill either the truck is destroyed or I just plain can't stand the truck any more. Sometimes a 12-15 year old truck just dosn't have the technology I desire. Edited by: Bronco
flhrciblueice 01-24-2004, 01:41 AM Will I keep it past 100k?
If I don't, it will be the first truck that I haven't. Right now, I have the following trucks:
2004 GMC 2500HD - Dmax - 4,000 miles
2000 Chevy K3500 - 454 - 196,000 miles
1985 Chevy K5 Blazer - 350, mildly builthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif - 148,000 miles
1980 AMC Jeep CJ5 - 232,000 miles
1996 F350http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif - 7.3 Psd 215,000 miles Yes, I do have a ford. It stays out on the farm to be used when the dmax is not available.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
1976 Chevy K20 - 400, heavily built - 487,000 miles
Also in the stable, but no longer used is a 1978 Ford Ranger XLT 1/2 ton w/390 that was my papaw's(yes I am a hick, and that is the way we say grandfather around herehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif)
Last year I sold a 1969 Chevy c10 w/292 I6 @ 785,000 miles.
I don't own any cars at this time.
Wife's S-Blazer is a 1999 and has 50,000 miles and my 2001 Road King Classic only has 20,000 miles on it.
I do intend to keep this dmax truck for a loooooooooooong time. I hope I won't have to fix much on it, but if I do, so be it. This is the first truck I have ever bought for myself that never had another owner and I am hoping to get several hundred thousand miles out of it.
Camstyn 01-24-2004, 05:50 AM I plan on keeping mine until something better comes along.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif By bettter I mean more practical, powerful and reliable. No problems yet so I'm not worried about it, I've only got 12k on mine. If Ford or Dodge step up to the plate and a local dealership is something other than a complete retard, I'll consider. For now I'm happy with what I have.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif No need to "upgrade" or change brands, I've only ever owned Chevy/GMC's.Edited by: Camstyn
JEBar 01-24-2004, 06:25 AM Have 53,000+ on our '02 (bought in Oct. '01)... at that rate should have 200,000 - 250,000 somewhere around 2010, IF GM has corrected the current mechanical issues and more haven't surfaced, will hopefully trade for what I should be my last truck ... no engine/transmission issues to date, but must admit that as the miles go by I am growing increasingly nervous about injectors

dmax lover 01-24-2004, 07:38 AM I was driving along in my truck with my 7 year old daughter and she kept putting her feet up on the glovebox - and I kept asking her to stop. Then I told her "You know how long this truck will last? ". "No" she replied. Then I said, "I keep all my vehicles ten years, whether I need to or not - you will be 17 then and will be able to drive this truck. Do you want this truck to be yours then?". She took her feet off the dash and they stayed off... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
As far as injectors go -> I think failures are caused by american fuel running with a european injection system. Also, I have come to the conclusion that this board gets a disproportionate representation of guys who run modifications or additives that are not approved by GM; I think some of the failures are due to this and that the "injector problem" that we see here is not representative of the "real world" with 300,000 plus DMaxs on the road...
I run additives from stanadyne to bump lubricity and cetane to get it in the ballpark (of a european diesel fuel). I also fuel after half a tank so that the fuel is cleaner (half has been recirculated through the filter multiple times upon fillup). This also reduces condensation in the tank (water). I will be adding the new racor primary filter and have it on order from oregon fuel injection.
I expect to do 150k without issue, after that my daughter gets to do another 100k...

Kartattack 01-24-2004, 10:18 AM It depends on where interest rates are in 3 or 4 years (about how long it will take me to hit 100k). If interest rates are low as they are today, I probably will trade it in. If they are high and I'll be paying more than $6k in interest on new truck loan, I'll keep it and use that money to fix whatever goes wrong for another 100k miles provided the core vehicle is still serviceable.
NoWake200 01-24-2004, 10:26 AM Probably not....
I just love the smell of new trucks.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif But the interest rates will be a very big factor.
mpl897 01-24-2004, 10:51 AM Mines gone for sure b4 warranty(5years) is up I ain't paying $565.00 a month and then have to worry about out of pocket expences..
If it didn't cause me many problems though, I will trade for another

Wickedsprint 01-25-2004, 11:35 AM I don't think I will, but if I traded it in, it would not be for a diesel, the cummins has all of the same electronic crap as well, and I would never consider the ford 6.0 I would actually consider trading it in for a gas engine. I used to like diesels for simplicity. Now compare our engine to say..a ford V10, no distributor(coilon plug), 100k spark plugs, engine is essentially free with the truck, and getting 150k-200K out of them is pretty common. The only downside is about 4-5mpg less in town mileage. You can slap a vortech blower on it, 450hp and still be half the cost of the duramax option for ours. What gives?
dmaxalliTech 01-25-2004, 11:40 AM I am gonna trade mine at the 3/36 warr cutoff. Oh wait, never mind, the warranty is void anyways from my Western plow on a c/c
ArrBee 01-25-2004, 12:03 PM 5 year biz plan, 50,000 a year, replace for "Image with customers" reasons, the need to be "recent and decent".
I think the interior will go out first, but upholstery isn't THAT expensive to have done over. Salted roads in New England shouldn't destroy the sheet metal, some/many/most '90s cars are ok for 10 years here.
Duhh, I guess that multiplies out to 1/4 mullon myelles http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif So, what will the '09s be like ? and how much $s ?

I'm dumping my lemon once I find a sucker .... Any takers ??
I'm trading up to a Hemi .....

Gradyghost 01-25-2004, 12:09 PM Speaking of hemis.....anyone see what there gettin for muscle cars at the Barret jackson auctions?
bob camire 01-25-2004, 10:02 PM history states that i will haveher for around ten years...ive kept all of my vehicles for over 100k...sometimes 150k ...shes not my daily driver..bought it to mainly pull my 5r...will be intersting to see how i rack up the miles..in the past when commuting it was easy to predict mileage over time....hopefully she will be prove to be reliable...if not that would be the only reason to upgrade..i wont wantto spend these $$ on another rig if i dont have to...
Rookiew/Dmax 01-26-2004, 09:23 AM I had an S-10 for almost 10 years and 230,000 miles before my 02 Dmax. I literally drove the S-10 until the doors fell off (well the drivers side anyway), repaired the hinge and put another 30,000 on her and that truck cost me a whooping $13,000. Now I have a $40,000 truck, simple math tells me that I will keep this truck for approx 39 years and 690,000 miles (on one set of injectors).
Camstyn 01-26-2004, 11:37 AM We'll see when the time comes, I'll be watching the forums to see how many other owners are having problems, or NOT having problems, after 100k miles.
Chevysrus 01-26-2004, 12:47 PM I'am kinda on the fence for getting an '04 or an '05. I usually trade every 3 or 4 years or so. My '01 is great and no issues at all and don't expect any, but wife likes the 4 door and I like DMAXALLITECH's GMC. Don't know if the '05's will have another styling change or not. watching the '04's for any issues, so far everyone seems happy.
I thought this would be the last truck, but seems like I might have one more new one in my future and IT will definately be the LAST TRUCK!
My tabs are due in May, my bonus comes in Feb, taxes get paid in April, so nothing to do in May except get a new truck ha ha ha
I have bought so many cars and trucks from my dealer, when I walk in he just says, how much over invoice are you going to give me this time! LOL
He offered me one of those new SSR pickups for $1,000 over. I should have bought it and sold it for a profit. Nice truck, but just a toy for $38K. Cool though with the retractable hardtop. Wood strips in the bed are on velcro so you can take them out if you really plan to put anything in the bed LOL.
I feel the fever coming on LOL http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Nothing to do with injectors or problems with the truck, just that new truck fever!
