I am gonna be towing a 500 pound trailer that will be loaded to a combined weight of 2000 pounds. It will be mostly highway driving. Am i better off to use tow haul mode and OD Lockout or neither or one? Please respond soon. Need to make this run soon, but am confused about what to use when. Tons of posts, and i cant make heads or tails out of them
Thanks

I would not use tow/haul mode unless your added weight is over about 4000 pounds. Just my own opionion.

Use the setting that you prefer. With towing a 5500lbs TT, I mainly use the T/H mode, but in city traffic I prefer the standard mode, to keep the RPM's down. With 2000lbs, the truck probally won't even know that there is anything back there.

OK,
Just hook up the trailer and drive.
At 2000 lbs, your truck won't know it's even back there. I doubt you will even have brakes on a trailer that size.
Don't bother with the T/H button. Just put in the truck in "D" and go!
The T/H feature just changes the shift programing of the Allison. No more, no Less. Yes, it changes the way the converter locks up, but that is part of the shift programing.
A long time ago, Trannys with Over drive, were not really designed to tow loads in Over drive. That gear was used for economy. Since the Allison is a Heavy duty commercial truck transmission, even it's overdrive ratio is designed for towing.
If you never use the OD lockout feature, you will not hurt the tranny, it will protect it self and unless you are going to be pulling a 18,000 lb trailer in the near future, don't worry about it.
I know you don't want to hurt the truck but believe me, with the load you are going to pull, you could easily have someone set the whole trailer in the bed of your truck and it would not matter.

My trailer is only 3,300 lbs. I was towing with my 1500 5.3 ltr. gasser and found that even with the 5.3 I liked towing better when not in tow/haul mode. Seemed like the engine whould rev to high with that little weight. Now I am going to sling it around when I pick up my 06 Duramax tommorrow
