I have a 2002 3/4 ton Duramax. I love the trucks looks, ride, handling, and fuel mileage is OK empty BUT when I pull anything my mileage drops terribly so I test drove a 2005 Dodge diesel the other day and boy have they come a long way. My Duramax gets 14/ 15 city, 18/19 hwy. empty. Towing a 7,000 lb 5 th wheel I get 11 mpg. and towing my small trailers, 2,000 lb. I get 13/14 mpg. If the Dodges get a LOT better I will be sold. Can anyone tell me what there getting mpg. with the Dodges. I,am looking at a 2005 3/4 ton crew cab short box 4x4. My Duramax is also a 4x4 extended cab 3.73,s allison tranny, edge booster, kn filter and only 55,000 miles. Black and lots of chrome. Please Help

At 55,000 miles, I don't think your mileage is going to really improve anymore. The fact that you have 4x4 is going to decrease your mileage, as will the automatic tranny. My truck has the 6-speed, 4x2, and 3.73s. See my post in the MPG thread for my numbers.

Larryd1,
I just had a trip towing that I didn't include in the mpg thread. My truck has only 12k so not broken in. Towing 7k lbs of trailer and motorcycle it gets 13-14 on the interstate doing 65-70 mph. The worst I've gotten is 11-12 towing the same load, on two lanes in mountains, in tow/haul mode. And I'm talking switchbacks and steep grades. It has gotten better mpg over time.
