: Banks Monster with no Cat
careytst 08-26-2005, 10:19 PM Well, I have had the Monster Exhaust and exhuast brake on now for some time. The sound is nice, but I do have a drone at around 1500 to 1800 RPM that drives me nuts. I wish it could be quieter and still have no restriction. The system I put on did not have the front pipe from the turbo down tube. If I were to change out the OEM front pipe to a 4" front pipe, would this help the drone out any, or would it just make it worse?
mahalkita 08-27-2005, 08:22 PM I have only changed the front pipe (removed the cat) and it helped a bit to quiet down the drone at 1500...1800 rpm. Since I don't have the muffler changed I don't know if that would make the drone worst or not. The cat was vibrating and the straight pipe I put on is better in that aspect for sure. So it might help you - just try it, it won't hurt.
careytst 08-28-2005, 12:03 AM Thanks Malhalkita, as soon as i save the pennies for the front pipe I will replace it.
Brandon R 08-28-2005, 01:06 PM I have a MBRP exhaust had a bad drone when i first put it on, so bad after an hour of driving I couldnt take it, purchased a resionator and installed it 100% better, i still have the stock down tube. I feel for you its a real bummer having that deafening drone.
LTChip 08-28-2005, 02:05 PM Does Banks make a front pipe or is it another brand that works with the Banks exhaust. I am interested in doing this for my truck too.
Bodysurfer 08-28-2005, 02:15 PM Ya, BANKS makes one. I have the BANKS cat-back and about 1 yr later, I just put on a MBRP front pipe.

Elowe65 08-28-2005, 03:08 PM I have the Banks monster exhaust with the Banks front pipe and the Banks muff-delete pipe installed on mine.
Crew cab short bed, no drone. just a tad loud when next to a wall, with the windows down. With them up, it sounds perfect in my opinion.
LTChip 08-28-2005, 04:18 PM Thanks for the info guys.
Mark Craig 08-29-2005, 03:21 PM LTChip,
We have the MBRP front pipe in aluminzied and 409 stainless as a seperate item. The Banks is 409 if you need that info.

Is the whole Banks system 409, or just their downpipe? Also, is there any sort of documentation as to which is quieter such as a idependent test?
LTChip 08-29-2005, 07:57 PM My Cat back Banks is 409 so to match it I could use the Banks or MBRP front pipe in 409. (I assume that the MBRP front pipe will work with the Banks exhaust.
LTChip 08-29-2005, 08:24 PM Body surfer - in that photo is looks as if the angle of the down pipe ends are different than those of the cat (I assume that is the cat and pipe setting side by side).
Is this a drop in part of is there some fab work to do?
Mark Craig 08-30-2005, 10:07 AM toyotasaurus,
The whole system is 409, quiet testing hasn't been done by anyone as far as I know across the different brands.

careytst 08-30-2005, 09:18 PM Hey Brandon R:
Just where did you install the MBRP resonator on your truck, and does it come in the 4" pipe size?
Mark Craig 08-31-2005, 12:43 PM careytst,
Best place is as far forward as possible in the system, they come with expanded joints to slip over 4 inch OD tube that a typical performance system is built from. They are available in aluminized and 409 stainless. We stock them so if you need one call us.
