Are the speakers that are included with a non-bose sound system the same as the ones in the bose sound systems?

Thanks

Noooo they are completely different. And they are wired differently too.

I second that...

Bose are very "dynamic" speakers. That is, they alter the sound of the music. Some people love them, some hate them. I'm not a big fan of Bose. I like a more natural sounding speaker. Not to say they aren't well made, they are. They just don't fit my tastes. Never buy a speaker without listening to it. It's like trying on a pair of shoes.

depends on the type of music you listen to,also.

Ok, I'm probably going to get abused for this, but.....

I'd like to put the lux-boxe TNR in my non-bose truck. I've already heard a few people discourage this and to just put in an aftermarket system.

However, let's just say that installing the Lux-Bose TNR is a good idea in my truck. And lets say I would purchase the kit from JPCustoms (that way I don't have to list all of the parts separately in this next section). You guys are saying that I would also have to get six bose speakers (for the ext-cab), the bose lux-amp, then the sub.

Do I have that right?

Please tell me that bose uses the same speaker wire as the non bose system? Dura' seemed to indicate they weren't.:(

I'm thinking that the Garmin 376C is perhaps a better solution... That way I can use it with my boat :)

Whats wrong with a non-LUX TNR? Why not use one of those adapters and run an aftermarket amp and speakers with it?

I wish I could tell you it would be easy to install a Bose system in your truck. But since every electronic device in the '03+ trucks is tied into every other one, it's just not feasible.

exactly.

and lux is good for 8 speakers (4 twiddler). But what a mess.

Even if it was the non-lux TNR, wouldn't it still need the bose speakers, amp, sub, etc.

at least the amp.

Converting from non-Bose to Bose wouldn't be worth the money. I don't think even a non-LLUX TRN would be workable, because you'd still need the Bose wiring.

So, It *would* be better, in my case, to get the Garmin 376C. Because I wouldn't have to get new speakers, amp, sub, wiring, (I already have the infinity Basslink). And, I can also use the same unit in my boat for the charting/gps/fishfinder/XM weather capability. I think I'll go that way and save a few thousand $$$.

Thanks fellas, and babe (Just kidding Tom)

actually you CAN put a non-lux Bose TNR in a non-Bose truck...you just need a PAC AOEM-GM24 adapter and an aftermarket speaker system/amplifier...

Not sure this makes sense to me, Ben. I guess I never thought about it. Isn't the bose amp required for data bus, etc? Is that just chimes, etc.?

BTW , Where do chimes come from in non-bose vehicles?

TheBac
08-27-2005, 05:27 PM
The chimes are generated from the radio in our trucks. Not sure if the Bose amp has anything to do with them. Ben will probably know.

killerbee

Right, integrated amp. Without a bose amp, a TNR would be useful only as a basic radio. No chimes, no sterring wheel controls, etc. Perhaps I am wrong.

DURAtotheMAX

Nope...on NON-lux Bose and non-Bose systems, the chimes are generated by the head unit. The amp does nothing but simply amplify sound in the non-lux Bose system. Thats why its lovingly called the "dumb amp". With the Lux amp, chimes are generated in IT rather than the head unit. The outputs from non-lux Bose head units (both nav and UC6) are identical to standard RCA low-level outputs that any aftermarket head unit would give you. Thats why with that simply 35$ adapter, you can turn the outputs of a non-lux Bose system into standard RCA outputs that can be "understood" by any aftermarket amp/speakers. The non-lux Bose amp isnt even connected to the data-bus. Follow me?

---Ben

BTW...everything works as normal...steering wheel controls, chimes, everything...on non-lux Bose head units, they just output the sound and could care less what recieves the audio. Whereas the LUX systems are totally interactive and dependant on one another.

I work for Bose and if it didnt come factory I would go aftermarket because the systems are tuned for the specific vehicle.

Kevin67--- I dont suppose you would be willing to share any (even rough!) specifications on the Bose systems that go into the GMT-800 trucks, would you?):h Any idea what the power ratings and impedances are for the speakers and Luxury (Y91, Class II data capable) amplifiers????

The bose that comes in our trucks is a total piece of crap IMO. The Lux is mildly better. I have never met a bose acoustic component, that I didn't tear out. I pulled the drivers on this truck, $3.99 from taiwan, about 10 W ea.

"tuned"? Tuned out maybe. I'd say hype.

No offense intended toward anyone on this thread..
