: Oil from the Factory?

I just bought an 05 and ready to change the oil at
1500.

I'm going to use DINO for a while and then will switch to
Amsoil. I would like to put the factory oil in for the first oil
change or 2.

Does anyone know what oil comes from the factory?

not sure what comes in it from the factory, but I use Rotella T. Its one of the most well known and trusted diesel dino oils.

Does anybody use the GM oil. A couple of my friends are techs at GM dealerships and i get the oil and filter dirt cheap. But if it's not the greatest, then i'll have to change.

Get some good oil in as soon as possible, and that would NOT be OEM GM oil.

What info do you have that says GM oil is no good. GM makes a 15W40 oil for diesel engines and I can get a good price on it because I work for a dealer. Do you really think they would sell an oil that would be bad. Just think of the warranty expence. I'd say use it I've had no problem and will continue use it until some one shows me written proof theres something wrong with it.

Nothing wrong with GM oil,my dealer tells me it's Mobil. Just make sure you're using the diesel oil, 15w40, your dealer should be aware of this.

Is it true that GM uses a low quality oil in new trucks to aid in initial break in?

i was just wondering the same thing. My truck has really low oil pressure once the oil heats up after about 15 minutes here in the texas heat. It is only about 25 lbs at idle, and only 40 at 2000rpm which is 65mph. This sounds really low to me. Gonna tow with it for the 1st time tomorrow. Just got my Predator programmer, but am going to pull w/o it the 1st time.

Here how it work. The Manufactures buys the cheapest everything to just get by in order to make a profit. Do you really think GM will put in oil that costs them even one dollar more per truck for better oil. Think about it if they save just that $1.00 per truck that turns out to MILLIONS of dollars. Why do you think they DO NOT fill up the front end and rear end with the extra couple of quarts, yep they just made another two million. Why do they spend $7.00 for shocks, you got it, just enough to get by.
Why is my truck running smoother and COOLER, and the oil pressure is up after replacing that water they call oil, with Delac 1.
Put in what you want, but one place you don't want to wrong is the oil you use.
It's not ONLY GM, but every vehicle I have ever purchased, including the tractors and heavy 60 kw generators I run. The OEM stuff gets put in the garbage on the first oil change and that usually happens sooner than later.

The oil they sell is supposed to be good oil. GM's retail products are usually top notch.

The oil they use from the factory might not be the best but the stuff you but in the GM bottle is supposed to be a Mobil product.

Dino oil is very good, I have been running it in mt trucks since 85 and in 2 meg generators that run all year long with full load since the 70's the only time they stop is for a oil change or tune up ect. ]

GM buys oil that they install in vehicles coming off the production line by the rail tank car, not by the quart. At that volume, they can get a decent product at a reasonable price. It is not junk oil, but it is not the best either. I will usually run a new vehicle about a thousand miles & then drain it and install what I plan to run from then on.
I don't use synthetic oils. I don't think the extra cost is worth the benefits. I have managed to run several diesel and gasser vehicles over 200,000 miles & never have had to pull the rocker covers. I presently have a 96 5.7 liter gasser that has over 320,000 with only an intake manifold gasket change. Definitely not an oil issue.
If you can afford synthetic and want to run it, then by all means, go for it.
It's your wallet.
Whatever you decide to run, just make sure that it is formulated for use in diesel engines.
I run Pennzoil in my gassers and Rotella in the diesels.
