I put mine in, I'd offer pics, but the truck is getting a dent removed on the door. It is the model as mentioned in the sig and I had to cut the center plastics up a bit to get it to slide it. It is not flush and it sticks out about 1/2-3/4 of an inch. It looks really well and I have gotten lots of compliments about how well it looks in there. I copied the idea from another member on here. The largest "cubby" hole had to have the back removed and I cut down the corners about 3-4" to make it work. It does fit quite well. No other hardware needed to fasten in place.

Depends on the size of the CB. If it is small it will fit in the console. The large ones only fit on the side of the console. My Uniden PC68XL is mounted the passenger side of the console.

I have a connex 4300hp mounted on the roof between the visors, nothing else there of course. to get through all the foam on the roof you have to use 1 1/2" screws. and you can keep all your wires out of sight under the roof liner and door moldings.

No Go on the pic there Duramax Dad. Best idea is to have it on the desktop, then upload it through the attachment manager. All my Yahoo pics have their links change frequently.

Did you cut away that plastic mounting block in behind the cubby, to gain the extra depth. It looks like that block might be for another option.

I just got a Cobra 19DX IV as a gift, but need to still get an antenna for it. Any suggestions on a good one that's not outrageously expensive yet still provides good power/reception? Also, any advice on where's the best place to mount it (and where/how to run the antenna line, i.e. how to get it outside the cab without drilling any holes, etc.) would be appreciated!

Thanks!:)

the best place for an antenna is on the roof using a magnet mount i like the k 40 the best its easily tuned for low swr's other than that any stainless whip magnet mount would give you the most performance out of your radio. I ran my coax out through a gromet in the fire wall then down under the cab but however you run it avoid coiling up any extra coax because this could cause interferance or feedback.

I bought the cobra 75 WX ST. It's the "all in the handset" type. I have the remote part installed above the headliner with the plug for the handset in the upper center console. That way, I can unplug it and no one has to know I even have a CB.

I used a Firestick, mounted it at passengers side of the bed by the stake hole. Run the cable down there then though the vent at the bottom back. if you get plumbers slolder use it as a fish tape, and tape it to the wire it goes though easy.I still would like to get the radio flush, working on it.

Another quick question for you all... what/where are you getting your power? I tried hooking it several fuses and didn't seem to have any luck, maybe I just didn't have it grounded good... which is another question then... i.e. where is the best place to ground?

Reineke
09-03-2005, 10:55 PM
Switched power from the fuse block, contant from the cigarette lighter and the return from the same lighter.

Picked my power up direct from power stud in the under hood fuse panel. and grounded on a screw on the inside of the fender well.

I mounted a cobra 29 (pretty big rig) in the center consol. I cut the plastic assy. for the depth and used a 90 degree connector for the antenna wire. Only 1/2 inch of the radio extends out of the dash and it almost looks factory. I tow a 5th wheel and put the antenna on the roof in the middle just ahead of the dome lamp. The wire must be 15 feet so I routed it down the right rear "C" pillar to the floor, under the sill molding to the front seat, over to the center consol, up to the dash and around to the radio.
To cut the plastic, I used a hack saw blade with a handle. ( you can use duct tape too) I think a dremel tool was used also, can't remember. It's not that bad.
Denny.

I would imagine that people are drilling a new hole, and putting in a new grommet that they picked up from the local hardware store. I doubt that there is an existing hole/grommet waiting for someone to install a CB (as convenient as it sounds, I don't think GM would go through the trouble for something that is not universally installed by all truck owners). I think you'll have to find a convenient place, pull out the drill, and go for it.

there is a big gromet with some extra room in it behind the power dist. box on the left driver side floor but you have to remove box to get to it. It's fairly easy to do, just takes time and some cool nerves!

Denny4kids

A CB draws very little power. Tap into the cig. lighter wires. If you charge your phone at the lighter plug, add a noise canceling device to the wires to the CB. Radio shack has one. Get er done! Denny.

connex radios are considered a 10 meter radio Not really sure what the difference is still gives you all your reg. 40 channels + 80 upper and 120 lower and a 10 mhz switch the main reason i have it is for the extra power 80 watts verses 4 watts of your standard off the shelf radio.

Since I don't have the center console I put mine here. I haven't decided where to put my switches yet that is why the wiring is still a mess. BTW the power for my CB comes through the green switch. I just flip it on and off. Very handy when there is alot of chatter going on and you get a phone call.

I've got a silverado ext cab. Where is the best place to bring the coax into the cab? I've got a 108" whip mounted on the rear bumper. Currently ran coax under bed and then up thru the passenger side rear vent window. Figured I'd do that until I figured out a better way.
Has anyone drilled a hole in the rear of the cab, near the floor, and put a barrel connector in it?

The big gromet in the drivers side floor for the parking brake cable works well to route your coax through.

check on the floor under the back seat for a metal plug. pop it out and run the cable thru that, then silicone the dickens out of the hole around the wire.
you can route the cable down under the door sill trim.

See some pictures of my install on my CB. I got some plans for an antenna mount from TxDoc (THANKS) but haven't gotten the time to make it. The one I purchased is doing alright so far but I have a feeling it might not even hold up in a car wash (not too beefy).

I ran the coax through by the ebrake cable. Still a little tight so I wrapped the connectors up with electrical tape and gave a spray with wd40... slid right through.

I went with a 3' firestik. Works good so far and I haven't even tuned it yet

How is this radio working out for you? send? recieve?
I just picked up one at a Pilot Truck Stop last Friday. I like it because of it's size and the price I hope to install it in the upper console or that useless spot below the HVAC controls.

The only real communication I've had is with my neighbor. I drove about 5 miles away and at about 6 miles is when he started to break up. He said I was loud and clear for the first 5 miles. I'm going to hook up to his SWR soon and tune my antenna, I'll post where it was at once we do that.

It fits *perfectly* in the upper console. I just didn't want my cord hanging down. Believe it or not, where I have it mounted is in with the factory bolts that hold the lower dash panel on. No drilling!!!

Question... will my 3' firestik hold up in a car wash or will it snap?

I have a 4' firestick and I always remove it. I am interested in knowing what SWR you pull with your antenna right there. I am looking for a good place to mount mine. I do not want to leave the antenna there all the time (garage), just put it on when I go on the road.

TurboIndia, that piece just snaps in to place. I have removed mine a couple of times and I just stick my fingers in the two trays, squeeze and pull. It worked on mine. I just went and pulled it out again and started cutting :eek:same here I think it looks factory. now I'm just looking where to place the antenna. I'm looking at 2 places, 1st is drill a 1/4" hole in the bottom side of the mirror & make a plate to bolt to it. (I already removed the mirror to see if it would work) the second would be a PITA, but remove the drivers side front fender & make a bracket that will set the CB antenna in the same location as the am/fm radio antenna.
