I realize some previous threads touched on this subject but I have a couple of questions for anyone after I share my scenario. I'm up in the mountains(+-6,000 ft Elevation) a few weeks ago at about 25mph going up a 4 percent grade. I floored it to pass a slower vehicle. I did not have my trailer at the time and the bed was empty except for the hitch. During the pass I noticed the Check engine light came on and there was a very slight impression to me that the power fell off a bit. Maybe the power loss was my imagination but I think I felt a slight p loss. Half hour later and four on/off cycles later the check engine light went away. Hooked up the trailer, drove home and no perceivable problems and no check engine light. Took it to the dealer. Diagnosis= 1093 Low fuel rail pressure code. 11 inches of vacuum measured somewhere. They said I probably got a bad load of fuel and clogged the filter. The new type of AS Delco 1298 filter was on it and it was last changed at 10,300 miles and it now has 17,200 miles on it. So barely 7,000 miles on this filter. I explained that some on this web site have experienced the same thing with the filter and they told me the internet is full of people that don't know what they're talking about. They've never heard of this happening at such an early mileage, it had to be a bad load of fuel. They said they would drop the tank and check for debris but I'd have to pay for that labor. So I went to the parts dept and bought a new 1298 filter and put it on. I have an appt next Wednesday to re measure the "vacuum" area where ever that is. A couple of questions: Would I be out of line to ask them to test the fuel pump in the fuel tank for output pressure and flow rate? 2. Is it normal for their measuring device to pick up "vacuum" at all after the filter/before CP3? Does anyone know what pressure/vacuum should be there during normal conditions?. What questions would you ask the dealer since they seem reluctant to to investigate for a specific cause. (By the way I left the old filter with them so they can cut the canister off. Service foreman agreed to do that and together we'll see what it looks like). I'd hate to spend 500 to 800 bucks to have a lift pump put on for this issue. The truck is a 2004.5 2WD LLY short bed crew cab stock everything including tires. Zero mods. Any other questions I should ask the Shop foreman would be appreciated? They say just change the filter and that'l fix it. Mike

I would say it's just a plugged fuel filter, there is no pump in the tank the cp3 does all the work and if the filter is dirty you wil see a vacuum on the inlet side, how much is normal I have know idea.
