#8 needs replaced and #2/5 are borderline. I have had issues with #8 for a while now so I think I will do that one first then see how the other 2 respond to a overdose of injector cleaner.

How did you notice they went bad? Does it run like crap when that happens?

Mileage is down, UOA showed a little fuel, and at times WOT was rolling black smoke.

How much do injectors cost?

Should be around $ 320.

How much smoke were you having at wot?
How are the injectors tested to see if they are operating properly?

efi balance rate check.

how many miles on it? Same injectors as the trucks?

162,000 miles, and same injectors as trucks. It would roll black smoke at WOT. Normally I would have just a hint of smoke if any at WOT. My EFILive balance rates readings were actually lower than what the Tech 2 would show.

I had #8 running rich @ 32k, it was replaced under warranty. The other 7 are org. with 436k on the clock. Since I drive around at 55-60 mph. I get alot of soot for a good 1-2 seconds when I get on it, which I do rarely. I do a OAL every 60k and have not seen above >1 fuel in the oil yet. I run stanadyne every tank full. When it starts needing injectors I will probably just sell it. I plan on getting rid of it @ 600k anyways.

How much fuel was in oil ?

Just got back my analysis and it went from a normal of less than .5 to 3 percent this time.

Mpgs are still consistent.

Truck has always let out a poof of smoke weith the tune turned up. Can't say its any different right now

Hmmmm. I don't know what to think of mine. Balance rates check in march was fine. Pulled oil sample just over a week ago.

Going to retest it in a couple months, see what happens

Well I replaced #8 and #5 today with good used ones. I should have changed them earlier, big improvement in power. I knew it was sluggish but there was very noticeable difference.

did you already have the injectors? Seems there is a national shortage of lbz truck injectors. I was able to buy one in Canada a couple weeks ago. Mine was part # 97361355

I had to buy a set of 8 from a salvage yard. I had them tested and 1 was iffy but they said it should be fine. #2 is still a lil high and now #6 is starting to read a lil high also. With testing, shipping, new o-rings/coppers I am right at about $ 225/piece. After 1.5 months I got tired of waiting for a new one and with rumors of maybe nothing until August I went used. I have plenty of extras now and if I end up buying a ultrasonic cleaner then I can clean the nozzles and be good for a long time. Hopefully.

Well took the van to the stealer today to have the balance rates checked and to confirm that I need another water pump, grrr.. this one only lasted 212,000 before it started weeping:mad:. Balance rates are as follows tell me what yall think.

IDLE

#1 0.1mm
#2 0.7mm
#3 -0.5mm
#4 -1.0mm
#5 -0.4mm
#6 -0.0mm
#7 0.3mm
#8 0.7mm

Drive

#1 -0.3mm
#2 1.0mm
#3 -0.8mm
#4 -2.1mm The worst one
#5 0.7mm
#6 0.3mm
#7 0.4mm
#8 0.7mm

Injectors 1-7 have 446,000 on them. #8 has 414,000 on it.

Little black smoke at WOT. Dealer says they have never seen injectors in this good of shape at 446k.

FYI New GM waterpump from rock auto parts is 158.00 (no core) $305.00 from stealer. Pipe to pump gasket 2.00. Also do not buy the .77 o-ring they have listed it is not the correct one for a lly pump. Big o-ring (pump to front cover) from dealer is 20.00 and the little one for the thermostat bypass is 1.50.

Also gonna install two 10 1/2" pusher fans on the condenser, wired to a switch in the dash. This A/C has never worked correctly at idle since the van was new. Highside pressures up to 420psi even with a brand new condenser, orifice tube and accumulator and a correct charge. Have spent over $2000.00 in the past 5 years trying to figure it out. Everyone says put fans on it.

Anyone else having trouble with there a/c (high highside pressures) at extended idle??

What were your balance rates on the ones you replaced? I have one that is 3.6 in drive, two in the 1.6 range, and the rest below one. My mileage on this van is terrible and i do get black smoke when heavy on the throttle at times. Mileage last tank was 16.5

Sounds about what I get for mileage. And i get soot on heavy acceleration.

How are the injectors tested? They have to be taken out? Cost?

Test with efi or tech 2 etc

First you check balance rates. Between my Edge Insight and EFILive they both would read lower than a tech 2.
If you buy some used injectors have them bench tested at a rebuild shop.

Also your UOA will show fuel in your oil.

Overdose with some injector cleaner first and see if they come back around. If that does not work start with replacing the high one first.

Just bringing this back up, did you change them yourself? I have one going south for the last month or so and It just came in from GM and I want to swap it out myself to save time. Looking for pointers

Which one are you planning on replacing ? I did it myself and it was pretty easy. Do you have a new o-ring and copper washer ? To clean the bore I used Q-tips taped to a long drill bit. Do not lose the return line clip.

The passenger side rear most injector, 7.

That should be pretty easy. I would say 2 hours or less to do everything. It took me longer to remove everything in the way than to actually change the injector.

Anything i should be aware of? I will see tomorrow if the injector has the O ring and washer when I pick it up at the dealer.

I really cannot think of anything else. What was that injector reading ? Are ya done yet ?

Joey D

It's done, very easy. No smoke at idle anymore.
The injector came with a little sheet for programming the injector on the engine depending on location, I hit the dealer after putting it in and my buddy did it with the tech 2, very quick as well.
