: 6.2 Won't Start and I am STRANDED

I was driving yesterday, I am an hour away from home and I can't get the truck started and I can't get home. The truck is an 86 P30 Step Van with a 6.2 diesel. The truck was running fine, I was on a routine stop. I shut the truck down and when I tried to start it, it would crank over but would not start. I thought it was a fuel problem, because on the top of the motor there is an air bleed valve and no matter how much I cranked it I could'nt get fuel to come out. At first I thought it might be a problem with the tank and or fuel lines had become cloged. So I filled a 5 gallon pail with fresh diesel and ran rubber hose lines directly from the pail to the lift pump. I cranked it again and once again no fuel came out. (I had done this a few months before and it worked fine for testing) At this point I decided to replace the lift fuel pump while I was on the side of the road. I now get fuel to the top of the motor after alot of cranking, but it still won't start. (not sure if the lift pump that I replaced was the actual problem) Even though I get fuel to the top of the motor, there is no pressure. I think the problem has to do with the injector pump, but I don't know how to test it. If anybody has any suggestion I could sure use the help.

Help! Im stranded

:help:

Thanks
Ken

Sounds like your fuel solenoid has quit working. There is a heavy gauge pink wire that goes to a terminal on the top of the injection pump, with the key on, remove and then connect this wire and listen for a clicking sound. No click means bad solenoid, if it clicks, try removing fuel return line from top of injection pump. I don't want to give you any more ideas until you rule out the fuel solenoid. If it is not working, you can remove top of injection pump, bend the lever in the direction that the solenoid would pull it and put the pump cover back on. You will have to pinch the fuel line to stop the engine if you use this technique, but it will get you going.

I tried that, I heard the clicking noise in the injector pump by disconecting the pink wire and reconecting it. I also disconected the return line off the injector pump and fuel came out when I cranked the motor over.

Thanks for the input
