: Question: Which programmer?

This is my first foray into the diesel world, so I've got a lot to learn. I've spent quite a bit of time looking for reviews on programmers but haven't had a lot of luck. I'm hoping I can get a bit of advice here.

My truck and what it has on it or will soon have on it is in my signature. Aside from those mods, I don't plan on doing much to it other than maybe a bigger exhaust. I don't do any off-roading or racing or anything like that; I'm just an everyday driver who, when on the highway, is usually towing something 10 months out of the year -- either snowmobiles, a 30' 5th wheel, or a utility trailer. I would like to get the best fuel economy I can out of my truck, and for that reason only I'm considering getting a programmer. I don't need or want anything hard-core or super expensive. I don't care about being able to smoke the tires and I sure don't want to kill the tranny or have to add mods to it. I see the Predator mentioned quite a bit, it seems to be fairly popular, and is reasonably priced. Another in that price range with similar capabilities is the Hypertech Max Energy. One that I don't see mentioned often and haven't been able to find much info on is the Superchips. Can anybody offer any opinions/pros/cons/advice/real-life experiences on any of these three units? Thanks.

Look just above where your post ended up (see attached pic). There is a sticky that might give you some insight.

I did see and read that, along with every other thread I could find about programmers on this forum and others. Most of them are in agreement that the EFI Live is the way to go, if you have tuning knowledge and want to spend the money. I don't, on both accounts. I still have yet to find much info on the Hypertech and Superchips models.

probably don't find much on those two models because they aren't used much by folks here..not saying they are bad, but if you read those stickies at the top you'll find the most popular one. using the chart you can narrow down what you want..sounds like just a tow tune/mileage tune... EFI is the way to go on custom tuning, but if you just want a box programmer then PPE is about top of the line. again, it's all in those stickies.

I currently have PPE standard and running it on level 2. When I keep the truck under 2k rpm I am averaging 17.5 to 18 mpg. Level 2 is an extra 90hp and you can tell the difference. Im not trying to rag my truck out but I do like increasing performance. EFI is the top notch but I want to do more research Before i get it.

hope this helps.
