Has anybody eliminated the muffler completely from their MBRP duals? I really want duals, but I want this to be the largest EGT reduction possible.

I'm thinking new front pipe with no CAT, and then 4" the rest of the way with no muffler. This would have to help exhaust temps!

Kelly,

It can be done.. Clyde might do it for me if I want, but I'm afraid it might be too loud..

I talked to my local muffler shop yesterday about D/E and was told I would have to remove my spair tire and relocate it.I'm not willing to do that and as a comprimize I elected to try a single 3.5 (Muffler delete).Cost $95.00 They said that they couldn't bend that large a pipe around the spair.

MBRP is a 4" dual system that accomodates the spare tire just fine. They use the muffler to go from single inlet to dual outlet, so that's why you can't just cut out the muffler without basically building a "Y" pipe.

Charles,

I think it will still be quiet enough. This is the direction I'm headed, but I want a 4" stainless Y pipe too. Any ideas on that one?

Should be stainless as well, because you'd be cutting the muffler off, and getting the extension pipe in its place.. its a total fab/custom job, so i believe its possible.

I had a cutout installed on my stock exhaust system before my Flowmaster muffler for a Y-pipe effect and had the other side fabricated with no muffler. Sounds great, has more flow area and is cheaper than any single 4" system. The cutout is functional in that I can remove the regular cutout bolts, pull the extra exhaust side back and put the close plate on the cutout. That part is irrelevant too me though.

My point is to use a a cutout for a y-pipe if needed.
BTW, you will get use to the extra noise (music to some).

coyotekid,

We have had a number of customers cut out the dual MBRP muffler and do a straight pipe, we have the piece of pie you'll need to do it available. You will need the pipe welded to the Y that comes on the muffler. Easy to do or a muffler shop can do it too. However you won't see any extra EGT reduction, the MBRP muffler has basically 0 restriction for all practical purposes, now if you want to hear that engine sing it will make a big difference there.

Coyote the MBRP muffler that comes with it is of a straight through design, there is zero restriction, same one I am using. I will save you the time and headache and recommend installing the full package as sold. It is an easy install, even for the mechanically challenged. Good Luck!

Thanks for all the info guys!

I guess maybe all those Dodges at Diesel Thunder rubbed off on me--"Muffler?!"
"We don't need no stinking muffler!"

i have the duels without the muffler. I have a short bed crewcab, so the extra extension pipe that comes with the mbrp duel kit was a perfect fit for removing the muffler. The sound is good, not too loud. When I was running 315 h2's I had a 315 spare in the spare tire holder & it fit with a little modification, I just moved the hangers out about 1-2 inches per side & welded them. I now have a 285 70 17 spare with plenty of room. As far as lowering egt's I dont know as I have always had a straight pipe with no cat.
