For those of you who have installed the power tailgate lock.......How hard / involved was it? Did you tap into Power door locks?

Not to bad of a job. If you do get one, let me know. I can save you a lot of trouble on a crew cab. The instructions say to go into the drivers door for the door lock wires but on a crew cab you can get it in the cab.

It will take you about an hour to install and wire. The hardest part is fishing the wire otu of the tailgate.

I put one on my truck a couple of weeks ago. The instructions make it pretty easy to find the right wires in the driver door. I figured they connect it to the drivers door so it will unlock on just one push of the key fob rather than someplace else where you'd have to punch the unlock twice.
DON'T use the POS splice connectors they give you! They're so sorry they won't even penetrate the insultation and you'll wonder why the lock won't work. Go ahead and solder your connection.
The only other trick is to be sure the locking mechanism is actually locking the handle before you button up the tailgate. There's several bolt holes in the assembly, and you can mount it in a position where it won't lock, so you may have to move it around to get it in the right place.
Pretty simple installation. It'll probably take an hour or hour and a half.

They hook into the drivers door because it is the only consistant method regardless of cab config. They would have to have 2 different intructions for crew cabs and ext cab/reg cab. The crew cabs have seperate wiring for the rear doors and the ext cab and reg cabs don't.

are they worth it, had one installed, pulled on the handle was locked apparently, unlock it,still won't open. haven't even left the shops lot. take it in the shop, told they remove 90 percent of those installed for that very reason. apparently when you pull on the handle when locked, it bends the locking rods and will not open at all. still have it in ,but what a pain!

Mine still works 100% and it is 2 years old and has been in 2 different trucks. You would bend the handle before you will bend the lock.

Mine works fine since I got it aligned properly. I suppose you could defeat it if you pried and pulled on it hard enough - just like any of the other handle locks. All it's gonna do is keep an honest person honest or make it a little harder for the dishonest guy in hopes he'll look elsewhere.

I don't know off hand but price wise you are probably better to buy one online. I have to buy from the US, get them shipped here then ship back to the US so I won't be your most cost effective choice.
