05 lly with 4 inch turbo back MBRP exhaust with muffler, AFE cold air intake and Edge CTS juice with attitude.

everyone ask what the max is on boost and temp but i want to know what crusing is.

my buddy has a 06 6.0 ford. he runs 10-12psi boost at 65 mph on flat road.

I run 2-3 psi

he runs about 600 EGT at 65. and even when in power level 5 he only ever gets up to 1200 temp at the most.

mine runs about 900 EGT at 65 and will blow past 1350 with just stomping the pedal and has ran all the way up to 1600 easy.

do duramax motors run that high of temp and low of boost normally?

my concern is for the temp if it gets that hot just playing lightly whats gonna happen the first time i run up the mountain towing my blazer? am i gonna be running way to high?

is it bad to run that low of boost.

i suspect the EGT sensor is screwing up because it was reading extremly low today (double digits) at normal operating temps.

But what about the boost?

and back to the main descussion what is normal for the boost to run and the temp to run at 65 flat ground?

Yes a low boost of usually around 4 or 5 but 2 to 3 may sound low but it is all that the module tuner is doing. I would not be pulling in level 5. High EGTs like you see. Level 2 max and if they get up there drop a gear. Best thing to do is remove the Edge module and using some external gauges see what boost and EGT would be on a stock tune. then use the gauges again with the Edge module plugged in and do some more testing and see how they compare.

With stock programing I also see 1-3 psi boost and 800-900 EGT's at 65MPH. I have the stock exhaust and turbo mouth piece yet. I would also guess that my intercooler and intake manifold are probably pretty nasty inside as well. 145K..

i also see the low boost when just cruising(maybe 3-5 psi with boost stick) but i'm pretty sure thats normal as theres not much load on the motor. my buddies lb7 doesnt even lift the needle when cruising. as to the egt's, 900 seems high to me for normal cruising, i only see 650 or so flat land cruising around 60 mph. on the farely steep grade coming into my town if i got the cruise set at 60 the egts will hit about 900 coming up the hill but drops once i crest the top. i'd definately check out your egt gauge to make sure it functioning properly.

I would say my egt's and boost are spot on with what vern650 stated. The ppe is on level 2. I'd say max egt's that I have seen are around 1200.

I am having some of the same experiences as the OP.

I was pulling my 5th wheel and a buddy in a Ford 05 6.0 PSD pulling his 5th wheel. His RV is about 1k heavier than mine but other than that about the same length and height.

He was behind me and going up hills at 60 - 65 mph I would see 1350+ temps on the EGTs and 8-10 lbs of boost. He said he would see 950 - 1000 on the EGTs and 24 to 28 lbs of boost. He is chipped with an SCT gauge package with tunes from Innovative Diesel. He was using a towing tune. His truck is similar to mine in that they abot have aftermarket MBRP 4" exhaust, larger boost tubes, non stock intakes etc.

Looks like my numbers and experiences are spot on with the OP. Do these number sound reasonable for both a Ford and Chevy diesel given the load described? I would think the number would be closer for sure.

Different engines all together. Different turbos. More air in does help to keep EGTs down.

theoretically on flat ground at a steady mph, you should show little to no boost, due to there being no load, but Tanc is right..apples and oranges...every truck is different.

My truck MIGHT see 700F when cruising empty at 70MPH even on the hot tune, and not even 5lbs boost. One thing that the 6.0 Fords do is carry lots of boost all the time, but if you are towing and seeing high temps (1200+) but low boost numbers, you most likely need to run a lower gear!

Level ground 2300 feet above sea level
I use both a Pyro and electronic gauge
running Nick at Duramax tuners street tune for all below

Level unloaded Nicks mine runs about 565 around 5lbs boost at 70mph
towing will run 750 around 10- 12lbs boost at 70
firewalling anytime it will bring 1350 at 35lbs boost ( note... not a stock turbo)

What i do notice is the Pyro will show higher temps than the electronic guage almost all the time ( mounted in the downpipe )
