As my signature says I have an '01 Silverado 3500 etc. I am about to start diagnosing a possible front wheel hub issue, so I thought I would read up on what's what before I get started....I have already read McRat's write-up/pics in the DIY forum...nice write-up BTW.. :thumb:

Anyways, when I look up front drive axle in my Helm Inc shop manual it shows wheel bearings, straight and roller type. Now I have seen these parts on my truck and they are a contained sealed unit (hub) with sensor, not bearing race and cage. What gives? Any of you guys with the newer version of the Helm Inc. manuals have the proper pics and procedure?

The 2001 has sealed hub unit assy's, just like in the DIY here McRats DIY (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71798)
2001 had two body styles in production at the same time. Be sure to look at the sealed unit one, if you have the newer style body.

Yeah that's my problem, I know I have the sealed unit, but the manual doesn't have the sealed unit, only the wheel bearing and race style. This is a bummer because I paid good bucks for those things and I have looked through all 5 volumes. I have already read McRats write-up. It is fairly through, but I kinda like having the manual there while I'm workin' to keep me on track. Kinda like having you around when I'm throwing a hissy fit...;):D
