moss022 08-22-2005, 06:19 PM well, i hope all i did was blow out the c1's. should know later in the week or weekend. it was good untill i did some back to backs. was holding the biggest truck there a newer dodge dualie with 39" super swampers all around!! when my tranny gave up it was like someone took it out of gear. still has a warrenty on it but screw them:mad: i am going frankinstein:eek: ):h i did manage to get first in the dirt drags!:D
duramaxdiesel 08-22-2005, 06:27 PM You were running a Quad Tranny?????
moss022 08-22-2005, 06:33 PM quadzilla tranny out of texas i do believe. tried several times to get info on it from them and never got anything.
duramaxdiesel 08-22-2005, 06:43 PM Hmm I wonder who actually puts it together. Hope you get back up and running soon. I know the feeling being without my truck. Good luck.
BIG DIPPER 08-22-2005, 08:34 PM I know earlier on he was working with Bully Dog and I got that straight from Mike at Bully Dog. I would say a copy of the Transgo or the Transgo kit and machining some parts to increase the amount of frictions in C1, 2, 3 and maybe even 4. I don't think they were doing anything with line pressure when I spoke with them.....but who knows now.
Forced Induction 08-23-2005, 12:37 PM Sorry to hear that Moss, good Luck with the new Tranny!!
king d 08-24-2005, 07:13 AM i know of another who has the quad tranny and is running the co-pilot with it and they are very happy,,,
dmaxlover 08-24-2005, 08:29 PM Moss, what are you going to replace the tranny with? ATS, Suncoast, other?
partsguy662 08-24-2005, 08:39 PM Moss, what are you going to replace the tranny with? ATS, Suncoast, other?
I think he said he was going :frankenst which is a hybrid...
JakeGMCHD 08-24-2005, 09:19 PM That be right Partsguy.
He's planning for it to be born late this weekend.
Mike L. 08-24-2005, 10:32 PM Al
I will call you in the am. Stuff is on its way. I may have a new mod for you to try on Jeremys Ally. It might do nothing, it might pull another 10 feet.
moss022 08-24-2005, 11:13 PM come on mike, lets shoot for 20 ft!! i will say the addition of the co-pilot made a wonderful difference. only time will tell what gets created!
JakeGMCHD 08-31-2005, 07:52 PM Here are the C1's from Jeremy's Trans. All of the steels have been machined down.
JakeGMCHD 08-31-2005, 08:04 PM Here are the C2's from Jeremy's Trans. All of the steels have been machined down.
JakeGMCHD 08-31-2005, 08:09 PM Here are the C3's from Jeremy's Trans. All of the steels have been machined down.
JakeGMCHD 08-31-2005, 08:16 PM Here are the C4's from Jeremy's Trans. All of the steels have been machined down.
GMC-2002-Dmax 08-31-2005, 08:24 PM So they machined down the steels to make room for more clutches ??????
No single sided C1's either........
What was it then ??????
Just stock parts and a trans-go ?????

JakeGMCHD 08-31-2005, 08:25 PM Jeremy's nice colored torque converter.
dmaxalliTech 08-31-2005, 08:26 PM Holy Crap! Smoked everything that bad! Thats some pretty serious damage in there. Any pressure mods done to that? Transgo kit? whats in a Quad trans?
JakeGMCHD 08-31-2005, 08:39 PM No pressure mods. No Transgo kit. Just a Bully Dog Shift Kit with stock clutches.
partsguy662 08-31-2005, 08:47 PM No pressure mods. No Transgo kit. Just a Bully Dog Shift Kit with stock clutches.
Impressive it has held this long considering that..
Mike L. 08-31-2005, 10:20 PM Jeremys converter looks like a single disc billet of some sorts, but is working ok for the time being. I told him to keep it for a while since we don't see a problem with it yet. In the near future I will send him the latest TTS converter to chew on. I am disappointed in the Quad BullyDog b/s excuse for a performance trans. Did they not think someone would look inside and post pictures of this trash?
dmaxlover 08-31-2005, 10:42 PM Impressive it has held this long considering that..
my thoughts also. That tranny has seen alot of abuse, probabaly more than some of the big dog trannies that have blown. Not going to mention any names, but I think you know who some of them are.
ratlover 09-01-2005, 10:51 AM How many clutches were in each pack? Whats the deal on c4's
JakeGMCHD 09-01-2005, 07:38 PM C1's had 7 clutches and steels. 1 more clutch and steel than stock.
C2's had 8 clutches and steels. 2 more clutches and steels than stock.
C3's had 6 clutches and 5 steels. 2 more clutches and steels than stock.
C4's had 6 clutches and 5 steels. 1 more clutch and steel than stock.

Lets remember in the "early" stages that's how they added clutch capacity to C1 by turning down the steels to .048 I believe.Been there had that, warped too and it wasn't a Quad/Bullydog piece. Not being there I don't know what else if anything was machined in the balance of the clutch packs to add capacity to them.
So really although the tranny mentioned had no real "pressure" control as in a shift kit it held up quite well for quite some time or didn't have a whole lot of power put to it.
Point is all the manufactures experimented. As mentioned above Quadzilla Power didn't build the tranny anyway. But Bullydog was right inline with what everyone else was doing at the time minus the Transgo kit.
I'm willing to bet with more pressure you would have not seen such burnt clutches.
moss022 09-01-2005, 09:38 PM bastard stack from day one, then indy went to tts on sunday. power was there, tranny wasnt. that tranny still netted me a 12.74 on the bastard stack. look out now:muahaha:
looks like i was screwed from day one in more than one way. i guess put me in the live and learn catagory! i swear i could have built 2 of these trucks now with the money i have spent!
Kennedy 09-02-2005, 11:39 AM Suncoast never machined "thin" c1 steels, and I seriously doubt ATS did...
midwest 09-02-2005, 12:34 PM Jeremy's nice colored torque converter.
Why is the top picture look like it got really hot and the paint is blistered and the bottom picture looks fine? Enlarge them and look. You can barely read the writing and the bottom picture looks great.

Really,are you sure?
What was in the level IV kit that I cooked C1's on then? I have them kicking around here or there ,some where, a mic or two too, here or where they are.I also recall a call with Joe looking for some 18 gauge SS for the single sided C1's that were in my level V. I also recall a Kolene conversation
Odd 18 Gauge comes to mind.Don't use any more. Why? They warp badly, need proof there too?
Guess I'll make a call,maybe ;)

I think it's because of the lack of lighting where the pics were taken of the torque converter. I can say the paint was not blistered at all. I had seen no evidence of the converter getting over heated.

Never have so many said so much about something they know so little about>
OEM C-1 core thickness .046
Sun Coast Alto C-1 core thickness .048
Sun Coast prototype C-1 core thickness .0475 (18 gage) SS
Sun Coast has NEVER machined C-1 reaction steels simply because with single sided plates reaction steels are not used.
The reason I chose SS 18 gage for the prototypes was because core material needs to be 1030 or better for hardness. Since one does not special order a 30,000# roll of steel and expect delivery in less than 90-120 days, the SS 18 gage fit the requirments and was readily available at the time. The stainless had no positive or negative attributes other than it met the wear requirments. Oh yeah, and it was purty. Coning (or warping) as some call it, is simply the result of exposing steel plates to high temps in a confined (splined to a shaft) enviornment.
On a serious note: We have a few of our "Diesel Place" members that have suffered the wrath of "Katrina". One that comes to mind is Tommy Herbert ( a bear). Tommy is a great guy that hails from Cut Off La. and works on the offshore rigs. Our hopes and prayers are with Tommy and others. We hope they are OK. The catastropic damage from this storm is really unbelievable.

noreaster 09-02-2005, 06:59 PM Theres afew threads in off topic about people affected by Katrina, maybe somebody has talked to him.
Mackin 09-02-2005, 07:55 PM I stand corrected .Guess I should have done more research then going from memory. I guess I don't recall I had a conversation with someone else about machining C1' steels.
My bad ,thanks for the correction, sure it means nothing

I called and talked to Tommy and his wife a couple of days ago. They are home and doing fine. He was working on starting a generator so they could have power. They lost the truck, incurred major damage to the 5th wheel, (both expected totalled) and damaged their car in a pile up attempting to evacuate, but apparently escaped unharmed. I did not keep him long figuring he had to keep after the generator...
moss022 09-03-2005, 12:04 PM tc look the same when i put it in when i got it. "they" told me that its a triple. i said i could have anything but that. dont know how to tell
ratlover 09-06-2005, 11:27 AM I got a saws all that says we can find out Jeremy :D
moss022 09-06-2005, 10:04 PM talk to mike! new one on the way!
