From what I've heard the biggest bear is getting the factory LB7 downpipe off the turbo.

Some have said the downpipe can be done without removing the trans but I've also heard it can't be done without removing the trans.

Ask SD or GMCSLEHD. They did an install a few weeks ago. Seems it took quit a while and they had to lift the cab to install the down pipe (didn't want to hammer the fire wall) and a mod to the exh pipe to fit the down pipe was necessary (IIRC).

I have never tried doing one without taking the tranny out and probably will never try. Downpipe is cake to get off with the tranny out. Just apply a little heat to the downpipe bolts. Getting the band clamp on the new turbo to downpipe can be a little frustrating but i never have had to lift the cab to get the new downpipe in. Also getting oil return line bolts in the new turbo can be a pain. Its probably going to take a newbie a good day of work to get it done. Matt

You can have the trans out and back in in the time it would take you to fight it.

Dont forget the couple hours your gonna spend chasing parts to make it a complete job....
